Pet Peeves : Road Repair
Hi Folks, I just had to bring this up. Here in the NY area (Suburban NYC), similar to much of the Northeast area, the roads after a winter with freezing and Thawing, the main and secondary roads become Laden with POTHOLES. My peeve goes well beyond that fact. It's the Repair process that never ceases to Amaze me!! The Same Ol, Same Ol. The Highway Depts, will throw some asphalt in the hole and pound it down or use a small roller to flatten the added material. In this day and age, of flights to Mars, don't you think we could use the better systems seen used in other Countries (Sweden for example). From what I can gather, they apply a special material and it is put into place with looks like a ray gun machine (for the lack of a better description). The Repair is permanent, and flush with the road surface. No loose Asphalt shooting into your car's underbody and fenders as you pass over the "Fixed' Patch.
While I'm at it, it's incredible that when a major portion of a road is Repaved, sure as Shootin, within a short time after the road is done, a Utility company (Con Edison, Water, etc.) will inevitably cut it up to repair an underground electric or water l/sewer line !! Common Guys.... Is it asking too much that those lines are upgraded at the same time !!!
Additionally, in light with road Patch repairs, don't we have a better more reflective material to apply to the roads to be able to see lanes easily in rain and night especially. !! Driving at night in the rain is atrocious - terrible visibility. Try that on the Hutchinson River Parkway at night in the rain!! That will test your Nerve and Eyes all in One.
