San Francisco Weather = Misty Weather HELL

I live the "Sunset" neighborhoods of San Francisco and every night and morning I wake up to what I call "MISTY WEATHER HELL!"

So, everyday I wake up my entire car is soaked in water like I just washed it and forgot to dry it.

I have been drying it everday before I go to work but it is such a PAIN

I don't want the water to sit there and dry everyday because from what I know that would also leave water spots everywhere...(or is that just with soap?)

Basically, I would say that 80-90% of the year where I live every night and morning my vehicle is subjected to hardcore misty weather.

I don't think it's safe to dry my vehicle everyday because I am not washing it everyday so I am drying a "dirty" vehicle which is probably scratching it.

Is there anything I can do to keep my vehicle cleaner or protect it from water damage?

What can I do???

Thanks

I'd say you're correct and I wouldn't dry my car in those conditions either. I take it you're parking outside, which as you know your car is exposed to the elements until the morning when it has that dew / mist / whatever you want to call it.

I'm not sure there's much you can do to prevent it, but as far as getting rid of it, if you're going to dry it, I'd use a Quick Detailer when doing so. I really like Optimum's new Instant Detailer & Gloss Enhancer.

I'm sure others will have some suggestions for you as well.

A terrible sacrifice you have to live with!
I would say if you can get a good base coat or two of protection on there, that would be your best bet. I would also defer from your morning ritual of wiping it down, because you are correct in your analysis that your scratching the surface. The dew collects all that dust during the evening and morning hours. You go out and wipe it, and more then likely, your causing some marring.
If you have a real slick surface, that water should run right off while on your way to work, at least a majority of it. Maybe towards midweek or the end of the week, No Rinse Wash and Shine would suit your needs. Unless you felt like doing it in the morning before work!

I know what you mean since I work in Berkeley. I am currently using this formula.

Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection (UPP) + Finsh Kare 425 Quick Detailer = Super Slick paint surface that minimizes dust collection and beads water like crazy.

Having to park outside in SF is torture if you care about your paint. There is not much you can do in the morning. I'd rather have the annoying dew over scratches and swirls.

not only that, but the san fran dew is filled with salt from the ocean and the bay....if you are like me, then i would insist on either a parking garage or car cover....problem with a car cover is that its not good to cover a dirty car....

It happens often here in Long Island NY as well. I usually spray some QD on the misty surface and wipe dry, then let it sit in the sun to remove the "haze"

Thanks for all your opinions and advice thus far.

So drying isn't a good idea...what about the California Water Blade?

Next, why would using a car cover be bad...any dirt is possibly pulled up over the paint?

What would be worst...letting my car sit with that salty dew all day or using a car cover?

Parking outdoors in San Francisco is a sacrafice, I miss having a garage!!!

I need to look into the products that were individually mentioned.

Water blade will kill paint if there is one speck of dust on the paint.

car cover will trap the dirt that is on the car and then the little movement of the cover will scratch the paint

Worst, the salt slolwy eats away at the paint and after a few years you have no paint.

Your best bet is to apply a good polymer like duragloss, zaino, etc, then in the morning hose off the car and drive. Hosing off the car will remove a lot of the minerals and salt, the wax will protect against scratches from the moving minerals and dirt. Then take it for a drive, this will "air-dry" the car, and due to the wax, before you even move, it should come right out.

BTW, it is best to hose of the car with just a hose, with no attachments on it that alter the spray pattern as the normal hose spray will cause the water to sheet off.

If you can afford it, you should invest in a CRSpotless system so that when you do quick rinses in the morning, you won't have to worry about water spots from air drying.

With your LSP maintained properly and those morning rinses, your car will look awesome every day of the week.

I don't use any attachments but the problem is I have no access daily to a hose unless I went to one of those DIY wash outlets.

Looks like I am screwed

I just keep noticing how much more and more expensive it is to live in San Francisco....now even the morning dew is costing me!

Does any one know if putting a car cover on a outdoor parked car would prevent the morning dew from forming on the car overnight?

Well it will certainly prevent (depending on the cover) dew from forming on the car, but then you have to deal with putting a wet cover away!

^ Umm...doesn't sound like a better solution.

This weather is really starting to irritate me....could make me even want to move out of the city just to not deal with this every morning and evening.
