Parking lot incident/question
Parking lot incident/question
Hey all,
I'm posting a question for a friend whose mini-van was damaged a bit while in a parking lot. A note was left, first name only and a cell #. For whatever reason, they waited a couple days before calling and its now been two weeks without a reply. The insurance company instructed them to call the police, I'm assuming just to file a report for the claim <-- assumption on my end. Maybe the number is fake, maybe they lost their cell, who knows. What can the police really do in this situation?

The cops in Los Angeles don't really care about it as far as I know. I was in that situation couple years back where I lost about $3k worth of work camera gears. The cops didn't give a shit about it.
Sometimes, the renter's insurance covers the cost.

police won't do much.
your friend is SOL. either pay out of pocket or go through own insurance (comprehensive).
my car has been hit in a parking lot ($1k worth of damage). no note, nothing. i was pissed. broad daylight too in a busy shopping center.

As others have said the police can't do anything in this situation. Your friend can either wait to see if the person calls back, do some investigation on the cell phone number to see who owns it and if they find out who owns it see if that person owns a vehicle with damage to it that corresponds to their vehicle, use their insurance to fix it if they have the right coverage, or just pay for it themselves.
The security camera idea is good in theory but if the car was parked far from the camera chances are you won't be able to make out the plate.
