Paint. Who has the best Black?

Probably not the right place to post, but the 3G guys no the most about almoast anything.
My buddy's girlfriend just baught him a CJ-7 for Christmas. He is going to get it painted in the Miami area. He was wondering which manafacturer makes the best Black paint. He figures that a manafactures OEM paint is probably the best paint to buy for the Job, and he wants the best. Does he want Mercadies, BMW, Gm, Acura, Bently paint or what? He wants a little bit of metakick speck in it. Any suggestions? Feel free to ask questions and I will reply. Thanks 3G for your help.

I was always told that Spies & Hecker paint was the best. Its a German paint and it is OEM on all German cars and starting to be used by the Japanese manufacturers as well (Nissan). Honda and Acura use PPG which is good as well, but the #1 seems to be the Spies & Hecker. Others will chime in as well.

BASF is also a global OEM supplier. They supply a few manufacturers in Germany as well, Audi, BMW, ect. Chip Foose prefers BASF products also. BASF offers the Glasurit paint system as their high end line. Most reputable paint manufacturers have comparable lines. Really its going to come down to the painters skill.

I would def go with a German paint...after detailing cars for a few years, I could conclude their paint is superior compared to others.

at German paint. They (all the good brands) are about equal. The quality of it comes down to the painter/job. I myself prefer Sikkens ,Lesonal and DuPont (Spies & Hecker is a brand of DuPont). I cant stand spraying PPG (bad experiences with them) DuPont to me sprays the best. These brands will run close to 1k for just the material (about 3 quarts of each material (color and clear).

Edit and i should add there isnt any thing wrong with some of the lesser brands. I have had Great experiences with UPOL and Wanda

Well, when blocking/compounding paint I prefer to work on Sikkens, Dupont & Glasurit.

i have black sapphire metallic on my cl and i really like it, also you could look at java black pearl from subaru for black with gold flecks in it.
but for quality i would say the person painting it matters more than what manufacturer uses the paint
just tell him to go to a bunch of dealerships and choose the black he likes the best, atleast that's what i did and it gave me a good perspective
