Question Paint job for front bumer?

Hey folks,

I didn't know which other forum to post this in, I was just what the best & cheapest way to paint a front bumper for a 97 CL. I got into an accident over a year ago. Got a replacement bumper, but I can't live with it not painted. It's dark grey (there is a fancy auto-term for that - don't remember what it is, but i'm sure ya'll know what i'm talkin bout) and my car is black. The local guys quoted me an arm and a leg. I'm thinkin about going real cheap by buying some spray paint at wal-mart and doing the thing myself. Probably won't be noticable since it's just the front bumper.

any help appreciated.
thanks

what did the local guys quote you? I figure it's just primer now? Or does it not have a coating on it?

they quoted me $500 to $750, including removing the bumper and all. But that's just crazy, or so it seems considering Earl Schieb and Macco advertise premium paint services for the entire car for around $300, and cheap paint for $200.

I don't think there is any primer on it. It's paint-less.

I see you are local

sweet, thanks. $300 sounds to be the limit, and reasonable.

I just had my vette's bumper removed, touched up the plastic from some rock chips, and repainted for $400, and that was expensive.

should be about right, it'd be cheaper if you took off your bumper for them

Tell them you were recommended by Arnold w/ the WRX and 240SX and Scott w/ the CL

I have a painter that is a friend's brother. My rear bumper go badly scuffed when I backed into another car. He just bended in the paint and charged me $225. Those fuckers need not take the bumper off IMO

the guy quoted me $450 over the phone for the front bumper. I wasn't aware 818 went all the way up to Glendale. I live in an area filled with auto shops. i'll stop at each and every one of them before i head over to glendale at that price.
