Desire is usually illogical.... its not something you can just compare on paper. Why get a Ferrari? Why get a Lamborghini? You can get a GT-R that seats 4 with the same performance and can be serviced for less at a Nissan dealership, all for FRACTIONS less. And yet, the GT-R is one of the last cars I'd ever get if I had the money.

I've never been impressed with the Smart, but to each his own.

Because you get way more ass in a Ferrari, Porsche or Lamborghini than in a Smart or a GT-R.

Plus, you'll get a bunch of hairy legged hippies coming after you if you have the smart.

I don't see anything wrong with the Smart. It's price matched directly to the Prius, but sold by Mercedes.

I honestly think the Prius is uglier.

But when it comes to fill up at gas station it needs highest octane available and you still get what?? a little more(about 2 MPG) than a Honda Fit and Toyota Yaris and you get very less space in smart, seats only 2, don't know if it can hold much of stuff as Honda/Toyota.
Price of Smart is matched to Prius but you have to compromise on space. You get more in Prius for same price.

Agree on Prius.

You have to remember, it runs on 3 cylinders...not 4 with/with not a hybrid engine.

So what if it runs on high octane gas. The gas tank is smaller. It produces 70hp and is RWD.

The points and views you are making are great but like I said, the Smart is price matched to the Prius.

if i remember correctly, they only get 24 mpg. I would rather get a corolla for $15k and get a bigger and better mpg car if i was going for fuel economy

Poor Geo Metro....the Smart Car is essentially a rolling roll-cage on wheels.

Thats what I am saying it has 3 cylinders NOT 4 and it needs premium but you get same MPG as Fit/Yaris.

Smaller gas tank is not a help, you have to fill more often.

RWD is not a plus point either, you cannot do burnout/donuts in stock form.

You can buy a Smart in Germany, have it converted to US specs, and ship it here for cheaper.

This applies to the hybrid crowd...Ohhh, look at me, I am green (until you try to recycle the ecological disaster called the batteries).

If I got the car, it wouldn't be for the fuel efficiency. There are other cars out there that have more bang for the buck than the Smart. I would get it because it can be parked damn near anywhere, a plus in the crowded streets of NY...

This is a great reason to buy it. In NYC, with parking at hundreds to thousands of dollars a month, this would be a no brainer. But the car should only be about $14 - 16K max. I think it would sell like mad at $10 - 12K.

That dealership is overcharging by about 75%. I visited my local smart dealer for shits and giggles. Decked out, a Smart hardtop runs you about $14,800.

For $26k I'd buy a brand new, or left over Civic EX-L. Great mileage, comfortable, safe, and doesn't looks like a toy.

Yea, I did a "build your own" online and it sure wasn't anywhere near $25K.

For sure. More space, lots of creature comforts, reliable, and still gets good mpg.

The Prius may be uglier (which I'm not sure I agree with, but that's another argument to be debated), but you can at least fit more than two bags of groceries in it.

And for crying out loud, if I'm going to pay that much for such a small car, it's got to be doing 100-200mpg. It only gets what....40?? Prius gets 50.

40mpg is nothing these days if you are looking at the right cars.

The Smart was designed for the small parking spaces in Europe and for that it is smart. The good gas mileage is an added bonus. It is not a hybrid, so it should not be compared with a Prius.

FWIW, there is a decent amount of room in them. It was able to accomodate my big ass and 6 racks of beer behind the seat.
