My friend and I test drove a couple cars earlier.
We test drove a:
A4 3.2 6spd quattro and an A3 2.0 DSG
Unfortunately they didn't have an A3 2.0 6spd.
After driving the two cars, I have no quarrels or problems with the 6spd at all.
The clutch and feel of the gears engaging is vastly different from Acura's 6spd. But that's expected. I really couldn't find or feel any problemsl with the 6spd.
The clutch was nice and tight.
When starting off I was reving the engine more than I needed to, but that was just because I wasn't adjusted to driving that car since I'm used to mine.
Overall, I don't think I'd have any problems buying a 6spd.
In addition, after going through some of the Audi forums, there are so many people on those boards that have the 6spd as well and haven't complained about it either.
The DSG was nice, but I didn't see or feel anything great about it. Since I have so much time left before I purchase the car, I'm gonna test drive the two again and see how it is before I make the purchase.
Guess we'll see later this year.

I've been on the AudiZine forum going through the posts and options avialable and I found the coolest thing for the A3's, A4's and A6's that have the nav option since last year....
Not only can you hook up your IPOD to the system, but you can also buy an extra module and run another video source to the LCD!!!
The guy that did the above install, hooked up a DVD player in his glovebox and ran the ipod to the center console.
Those of you interested in the module #'s they are:
dietz 1417 & 1280

^^^ I'm waiting for the '07 S-line as well.
Although the rear bumper on that silver one looks pretty good. I wonder what kit that is because they added a lip spoiler to the front bumper that looks nearly identical to the s-line bumper.
The giveaway that it's not the standard s-line is the bumper rails under the headlights.

one thing i can't understand about the a3; who the hell would buy the 3.2? it's almost 10k more for about 50hp? the price is about the same as a 3.2 a4?? i just don't understand the pricing for this car. When fitted with the 2.0 the pricing makes some sense....but the 3.2 . is anyone buying the 3.2?

In addition, for the enthusiasts, the mod capabilities of the 2.0T make you forget there is a 3.2
The only thing I wish the 2.0T had was the quattro which it doesn't. Stuck with FWD.
But it's give and take.

If you keep your CL and change the insurance on it to Liability and make the Audi the 3rd car...your sentra your primary...you can save money on insurance...just a thought.

Well, the time has come.
This morning I put in a request with the internet sales reps at two dealerships.
Except my wife and I are no longer going after the A3, instead we're looking at the 2008 A4 Avant 2.0T 6spd. In Ibis White of course. Even though the 3.2 model adds 50hp and memory seats, it doesn't justify the extra $5K for me. Although it does kinda bug me that a luxury car like this doesn't come standard with memory seats in all their models.
Anyway, here's the model with options that we're going after:
Edmunds quote:
As you can see, others have been paying approx $39.5K, what do you think my chances of getting it for around that price even though they WILL have to special order it because of the options, color and tranny combination we've chosen?
FYI - Here's a link to an article on AudiWorld that has a few pics of nearly the exact same model we're hoping to buy. The one they speak of is a 2007 model and is a 3.2, ours of course would be a 2008 and a 2.0T.
http://www.audiworld.com/news/07/200...nium-roadtest/
More pics at link, but here's one:
The Titanium package I added changes the rims to the ones you see above, black roof rails, black trim for grille and windows, black trim on the interior, and a black headliner.

$40K?? That's 20% on top for options packages!
Jeez, I thought a $30K Volvo C-30 T5 was bad.
I like the size of the A4s, but that's way over what a Saturn Aura or TL-S would cost.

Although the B8 does look great inside and out, I actually prefer the look of the B7. In fact, I prefer the interior of the B7 over the interior of the B8, not to say that the interior is bad on the B8, it's just a personal preference.
And with the B8 being a model change, it'll be fetching a higher price-tag simply because it is a newer model. And to top it off, there haven't been any shots of what the B8 Avant will look like so it's hard to compare it to the current and unfortunately, by the time the shots of the B8 Avant come out, it may become to late to order the B7 Avant if I end up not liking the B8 Avant.

dom, another reason to get the B7 over the B8, is that Audi is offering 2.9% financing deals on the '08 A4 lineup. Can't beat that.
I'm just hoping that my wife and I will qualify for that rate. Our credit is in good shape, but they sometimes put the highest stipulations on those deals.

$40k for a 2.0T ... Holy Jeezus. Love the car though Raskal. Look forward to hearing about it.
IMO the dealer should cut you as good a deal as if it were on the lot because it's no loss to them and they get holdback.
If it were a dealer trade you'd probably have to pay more (holdback goes to original dealer).
Good luck!

Anyway, I agree with you on the pricing. For the dealer it's a non-issue if they order the car or not because they have alottments that they get periodically. And if a customer wants a particular model with certain options, they simply go into their allottment and change one of the models to match what the customer wants. Simple as that. I found out that info after speaking with the Fleet manager who is also the Internet manager at one of the Audi Dealerships.

Looking outdated or not, I don't care what others think about the car and if it looks outdated or not. As long as I like it, enjoy driving it, and get use out of it, I'm happy.
As for being a 4-banger Turbo, nothing a chip won't fix.

230hp @ 6500
200lb-ft @ 2750
A4 2.0T:
200 hp @ 5,100-6,000 rpm
207 lb-ft @ 1,800-5,000 rpm
A4 3.2 V6:
255 hp @ 6,500 rpm
243 lb-ft @ 3,250 rpm
For a 2.8 liter I suppose it's not underpowered, but it seems low for the size of the car because if I did want to buy a Bimmer I would expect more power in that car if it had a v6. Especially considering the v6 version of the A4 has so much more power. Again, I understand the engine sizes are different, but I feel that bimmer should up the power on the sports wagon if they are to offer a v6 model that is in direct competition with the A4.
A 2.0T chipped from APR running on 91 octane runs 232hp/273lb-ft so it blows the v6 out of the water. It's just too bad that we dont' get 93 octane out here in california otherwise it has the potential to run 241hp/292lb-ft! I can't imagine what it would feel like with a Stage 1 Turbo upgrade.

Do more research noob
Its a 3.0l inline 6 and its underrated. They run mid to high 14s in the 1/4 stock.
A chipped 2.0t A4 runs low to mid 14s. (mostly thanks to the launch)
Dont just look at HP/TQ numbers. Gearing plays a big role.
Its a lot of money NOT to give all the cars a chance. I drove everything from a Jetta to a S4 when i was car shopping.

I should have read that it was a 3.0l i assumed since it's
labeled a 328 that it's 2.8l
in terms of gearing, what do you look for?
Even still, we're in the market for a wagon and the A4 is the one that we think looks good and has the stuff we want. And the fact that I don't even like the look of the 328 rules that out completely. As for other wagons, the S4 is unfortunately out of our price range otherwise I would do everything I could to convince my wife that we "need" to purchase that car. Don't think that I didn't think about that. I'm not getting a volvo, I'm not getting a subaru, so that doesn't leave many options for a good, sporty, well looking wagon except for the A4 Avant. Hence why I haven't really test driven other models; otherwise if I was getting a sedan, I'd be test driving a lot of models.

I think that for what you're looking for, the Audi is the best of the bunch. I've never been a fan of BMW wagons. The Avants look great. It's too bad VWs are piles of because I really like the Variants.

Personally, I loved the last generation WRX wagon, but we want something a little more luxourious, so that also rules out the MazdaSpeed3 which I did consider. Saab, well that's ruled out on the account that it's a Saab. Volvo although may look good, their interiors blow and I think they are overpriced compared to the other euro models. BMW, out of the price range especially when you start adding options, same goes for merc. I did also look at the VW GTI 4 door and the Passat wagon but again, for the price you're paying for the passat wagon I'd rather pay extra and get an A3 or A4 than deal with VW's reliability issues.
When you know exactly what you want, you have fewer selections to choose from.
