Other car forums

Is it just me or are most other car forums chock full of bone heads and idiots? I don't own an Acura anymore, but this forum seems to be unbiased and full of fairly knowledgeable car fans, and for the most part good people. The VW forums would be the runner up, but they tend to be a bit over the top nuts about cars or lacking knowledge but not opinions. I try to watch the G35 forum, but for guys who are purchasing nearly $40k cars they don't really seem to be very smart, the things that they talk about, in particular the same subjects over and over again are painful to follow.

So for starters a big to those who participate over here! And I am curious what you guys think of other car forums, what's the good the bad and the ugly?

I don't own an Acura, but there is definitely a reason why I am here on AZ. Your Car Chat section is definitely the best I have visited. A great group of guys here, there is not really any biased towards one brand of vehicle, and are a mature and respectful bunch. Kudos for making this such an enjoyable place to visit.

I am Moderator over at G35Driver and and I definitely agree there is more immaturity and fanboysim than I care to see. It has really gotten worse there in the last year or so.

I also visit ClubLexus as well, and while they tend to be a very knowledgable bunch, alot of them seem to be the biggest fanboys. Anyways, that's my worth.

I agree with Tireguy yet again

I like it here because everyone gives an unbiased opinion most of the time. Most other forums have the "my way is the best way" attitude.

I agree with the clublexus statement.

they seem to have ome good knowledge but also very fanboyish. also i tend to see the same subjects posted over and over again about the same thing, and sometimes more then 2 threads on the same subject on a page.

Alot of other forums tend to have many members who're quite abusive and down-right rude to people. And often, they are moderators themselves...so, you end up having a really lame forum IMO.

Most of the time, the negative comments/insults aren't that funny and often recycled and pretty much the same (i.e. Mom is whore, etc.) and the regular members who're either too scared just chime in their obligatory "LOLs" and join in on the insults and etc. because they don't really care to get piled on by the "in" or "established" crowd/sheriffs...

Personally, I could care less what is said online...but, not everyone does feel this way of course, and so, it just makes for a very poor online community at the end of the day.

AZ definitely FTW. Good crowd and good mods overall (I think Jonesi and dom are bozos...but, as far as bozos go, they're cool, I suppose... )...

Well, at least the insults evolve.

It seemed just like yesterday when we were "llamas" and "donkeys"...so, at least they are original. Other places still use the same stuff which is just oh-so-boring.

First off, AZ is a great site and currently my #1 since I refuse to get rid of '04 TL.

Since I'm (STILL ) shopping around for another near-luxury sporty performance car and looking at Infiniti/BMW, there are two sites I can recommend right off to bat: Bimmerfest and G35driver. Bimmerfest seems to have a pretty balanced population of non-douchebags who can discuss cars intelligently. G35driver also has good balance but with a noticeably lower maturity level. It has some fanboys but IMHO they aren't too obnoxious and don't overwhelm the board. Of course, Garnet Canuck can speak to that better than I...

E90post (BMW) is ok for the forced induction threads, but there is a higher elitist ratio and good bit of chest-thumping over paychecks. That, and "my daddy bought me a BMW" types who don't know a damn thing about cars but will gladly tell you how much money they wasted on body mods and ruining a well-balanced stock suspension.

By the way Garnet, I feel your pain about immaturity creeping in on the boards. I used to frequent DSMtalk (turbo DSM guy here) when it was a high-info, low-bullshit zone; now it's been taken over by emo back-waxers whose only interest seems to be 1) getting over a recent breakup, or 2) planning a new breakup. Interestingly, they still enforce spelling and punctuation rules.

Yes, I'm frickin' old.

:ibanotherYummyCheeksincident:

but yeah this forum is definitely one of the most unbiased and knowledgeable of the bunch... It is not packed full of 15 year old monkeys and hardcore fan boys. Although my next car may not be an Acura, i definitely plan to stick around.

i've been having a hard time following is300.net for awhile now.

none of the thread discussions interest me anymore. but, i always want to read is300-related discussions.

i think clublexus may be my next stop.

the offtopic forum in clubrsx.com...i'm on that daily.

LOL, I hear ya.

The maturity level at G35Driver has definitely gone down hill the last year or so. Kevin (Picus), who is also a Mod over there can attest to that as well I am sure. I think it is because the G has been out for a few years now and the younger crowd can now afford a used G. Certainly not all the younger members there are immature and disrespectful, but there are enough of them there to bring the overall quality of the forum down. At the end of the day, I still enjoying posting and being a Mod there as there are a ton of great guys there.

Btw, you have the same name over there correct?

wow, nobody yet mentioned the daily carnage at supraforums so I will. They're rough on noobs, even noobs with good intentions.

This place is reasonable and usually sedate and has good info and topics to keep my mind off Supras, and I do also own a TSX which I happen to like a lot.

whoaaa.... for a minute there I thought I'd miss my window to edit, since I can't forget to mention my '89 Legend that just keeps on ticking like clockwork.

I have been here since way back in the day when i got my cl-s in early 2000.

the reason i stick around is there are a lot more level heads, but there are still the "fanbois" that take offense when you say anything remotely negative about honda/acura, no matter how benign (Example: "Honda doesn't make a production V8." Fanboy's response, "I'm sick and tired of you putting down Honda").

But it's not as bad as over at freshalloy...I joined there when i got my M45 sport, and someone tried bashing me because I had over 1000 posts over here and my opinion was (and still is) that I would buy an RL over an M35. He tried telling people that this board "influenced" me to become a "traitor" in theoretically choosing an RL over an M35.

I think most of us are tired of defending Honda, and this place as morphed into more of a support group for those pining for a torquey RWD vehicle.

an acura "fanboi" would take that as a shot against Honda ("Why you saying Honda needs defending? You bashing Honda now! their cars are perfect and need no defending!").

might be the demographic, but most of the VW sites im on are filled with complete useless people making the most unintelligent comments and suggestions. Despite this, most of them have the balls to start hacking their cars apart and figuring things out that i can then use for myself...

Despite never having actually owned an Acura, I have found Azine to be the most compelling car forum I have ever experienced. Be it Car Talk, Ramblings or R&P, I have really enjoyed being here over all these years.

for the most part i read more than i post, but i spend 90% of my web time here...and i don't see that changing any time soon. the suspension section of coloradofans is pretty cool since i plan on bagging my truck, but other than that i can live without the rest of that site. over at mdx.org, you can't mention any type of performance mod without a bunch of them saying you should've bought an X5 or TBSS. the streetsource minitruck forums, if you aren't bodydropping your truck to the doors, you're gonna get shit for building your it, in their defense, this is mostly from the younger members.

the one site i do plan on joining is ls1tech, they seem to be very helpful when it comes to building ups. the hybrids and converisons section for the most part, i've been to alot often getting ideas for a v8 swap in my colorado.
