I will one up this. I think this is the sleeper/unicorn (but you can't buy it in the USA)

2008 Legacy 2.0L turbo specB (same engine and transmission as WRX). Interior has McIntosh 6CD changer, 6MT, inverted Bilstein struts so it holds the road quite well. More on this with bigger pictures here. When this pops up, wait for the HQ in the bottom right corner and click there. Bigger pictures do the car justice. About $12K total cost, with ~80K miles on the odometer for a 13 year old car.

Tuned by STI 2008 Subaru Legacy 2.0 specB

A 2002? Nice. I bet that was a hoot to drive. I do love the Alpina brand, but outside of Europe, tough to own one (can't really drive it like I stole it).

For us Subaru fans:

The STI tune got you a different exhaust, some 6 pot Brembos up front and two pots in the rear, Better suspension (new sway bars and tighter tuning), and the engine was about 300HP (same as the WRX STI). Yeah, I gotta get one.

So, just now, I was in the thinking room doing my business and it occurred to me:

These unobtanium in the US under 25 year old never sold in the US cars, what about if there was a way to import them to Mexico, register them there and "use" them here?

I have an address in Mexico and if there were a legal business here I would consider doing it. Am I totally around the bend here?

We drove our A3 & the CRV with Mexican plates for over a year each here and never had any issues.

We had some neighbors at our old house that lived the majority in MX & had a home here in TX that they would use for 2-6 weeks at a time.
So, it's probably do-able, just depends on MX laws regarding importing foreign vehicles.

I think you can definitely use them here... but i am also sure there is a time frame somewhere in your state DMV rule. .... whether that is 1 month or 1 year.

I have been driving my Ca registered & licensed Land Cruiser here on & off for 12 years. As I said the A3 & CRV were driven here for a year each (at different times) We brought the A3 back & sold it in Mx as it was unlike anything ever sold here, the CRV we were able to register & then sold here.

Mexico has all of the European & Japanese cars available through dealers, hell, they have the Hilux pickup!

You gents read the Audi RS6 Avant vs. Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S (both 2021) comparo from Motor Trend?

Good read: https://www.motortrend.com/cars/merc...n-test-review/

And yeah, if you guessed it, the stats are really close and of course, the Mercedes is a smidge faster because it's well, lighter. You can't go wrong with either.

Sigh.

So interesting thing: The Porsche pic must have been taken at the Weisach test track, as that's a Boeblingen plate.

Over there, it is a 2.2L, but with AWD, HID, Bose sound system and a 6MT...... That is below. About $17K for a 2016 model.

2.2 gas... And only about 200HP. Hence I am really leaning towards the Subaru wagon. 300HP

The Audi looks SOOO much better than the Benz, IMO. Benz has gone this weird curvy but blocky styling that just doesn't sit right with me.

RS6 Avant for me all day and twice on sundays!!!

Agree. I love the Benz, and would only kick it out of bed because there's more room on the floor. I digress.

With the Audi, maybe it's the styling that says F U. I am here, see me, eat my dust you plebe. I'll go with that.

Sighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...I was in stealership today and well, saw this beast in-person finally and FFS, it is beyond gorgeous. The picture does not do it justice as there are bluish flecks in the black...I bet in sunlight, this car is just stunning.

Some jerk (prolly BoostedJack) bought this as you can see. And they say money does not buy happiness. Fools.

Get rid oft he LED tear under the headlight & it's not bad.
Cover the front end & it has some VW look to it from the A-pillar back.

I'd do a Volvo 960 wagon with a Ford V8 so not too boxy at all for me.

Tested: Old Volvo Wagons Are a V-8 Swap from Serious Speed

From the Archive: A Yankee mechanic has more fun playing with V-8-powered Volvos than do the famous guys he's built them for.
