Filled up the Santa Fe tonight...$3.37 a gallon for regular. $53 dollars later, my farts will never make a sound again.
If not for my Kroger discount, I would have paid the full $3.47 so thank goodness for small favors.

Prices went up about 20 cents per gallon, at Costco and everywhere else, since I refueled last weekend.
I hope prices drop back down in the next three days or so, when I get fuel again.

Libya is contributing 2% to the world's oil output right now. It's not very much but it's an excuse to drive up the price of oil via speculation.
Saudi contributes 12% or so ... I think that's where the oil price increases are coming from ... People are speculating that Saudi is going to be coming apart soon.

Gasoline prices
America has no one to blame but themslves for higher gas prices. STOP .... and think for a moment ... Back in the late 70's we went through a period of gasoline rationning.
American car companies then began producing smaller more fuel efficient vehicles ... hey, I had 5 Honda Accords from the late 80's until today.
Then .... once the american public got use to somewhat higher gas prices...... the auto industry saw there was not a high profit margin in small fuel efficient cars ...... and the SUV began to take over ....
All of a sudden, it was follow the leader ... and everyone thought they had to keep up with others an have a gas suckin SUV ....
Next time you're in a public parking area, look around....and you will notice the % of truck, vans and SUV's in the area. There are those who require a van or truck for their personal requirements ..... but some have SUV's just to show what an they can be. Notice how they drive ?
Why do you think they have been driving small cars in Europe and Asia for the last 40 years or so ?
True, America is the land of the free, but we are also the land of gluttony. I don't believe in being wastful.
We have ourselves.

back in the 70's the "SUV" was the big stationwagon and the time of big cars with big engines. Then the foreign market started moving it with the smaller cars. The american car companies then started with the smaller cars-pinto, vega, etc. Then the americans wanted bigger. You can get more cars in europe with manual transmission-why?

I haven't looked this up but...I am willing to guess that a 2011 Explorer is probably MORE fuel efficient than the little Pinto of the 70's. The "land of gluttony" is not the sole reason for the current issue.

I kind of understand what is being said here about the number of SUVs on the roads today. But U.S. Demand is not the issue anymore. Yes the U.S. is a large oil consumer, but you need to look at the way the world has changed in the past 30 years. China and India are two little reasons the global demand for fuel is up and still on the rise.
