Official Car for sale on craigslist ad - suggestions, opinions, discussions

I think we should have a thread for craigslist sales. A lot of people use the site to purchase and sell their vehicles and I wanted to start a thread for suggestions of how to make the ads more effective.

I posted mine yesterday - Any suggestions to make it better? to make it stand out more and sell teh car faster? What do you think of the ad?

The pics suck, I know. It's 3 degrees outside, hopefully this weekend I'll wash it up and take better ones.

Less details, or at least separate them into less bulkier looking blocks of text. People are too lazy to read that much crap, plus it looks like a dealer ad. And even with all those details, I'm almost sure that there will be a few people that will ask crap like "is it an automatic or a manual?" even though you put a pic of the interior.

and why are you getting rid of it so quickly does it have something to do with that dealer experience?

The dealer experience does have something to do with it but it's mostly just cuz I don't like the car. I'd like to sell it now so that i don't lose anything later. I still have the TL and I'd rather go back to not having a payment, especially with all the good deals for properties out there.

One guy actually called and said how much he likes the ad, he's coming Saturday and sounds very interested. I guess we'll see what happens. I'm going to wake up at 7 and go clean it before he comes.

I meant to make this thread more for all craiglist ads in general, not just this particular one.....

I guess it does look kinda like a dealer, I used to sell a lot of cars on Cl when I worked for a dealership

I see the posting has been deleted, so perhaps you have already sold it or something, but when I was selling my wife's I30t, I made sure to put in the copy "A great alternative for any searching for a Maxima, Accord or Camry", knowing that no one would be searching for an I30, but everyone that searched for a Maxima, Accord or Camry saw my ad, and because it was in a similar price range, got a lot of traffic. Keyword stuffing your ad (without being blatant as they will flag you for that) is a great way to expand your exposure.

:wer: I always put in keywords at the bottom with similar models so that it comes up when they search for other cars.

Sorry guys, I had to delete the posting to put a fresh one up.

Here's a more up to date one, just posted 15 min ago.

more interior pics(and less blurry ones) are needed to show how good the seats are and how clean it is inside, other than that it looks like a pretty good and detailed ad

Thanks the car is trashed, cleaning it up sat morning and taking some interior pics with a better camera. Hopefully I'll sell it Sat but I'll update the ad with better pictures if not.

Got a new ad up with a lot more pics - with interior. One guy came and looked at it today, didn't like the tinted windows. I told him I'd take them off but he didn't like it.

What do you guys think? I detailed the car this morning as much as I could - came out to show its true MINTness

That's a good posting. You can tell that you are detail oriented from all of the pix you took. Hopefully that'll translate to "I bet that car was pretty well taken care of" for a buyer who's looking for a "like new" used car. Good luck!

Sounds like the guy who complained about the tinted windows was just looking for an excuse to get you to lower the price or something to that extent. I mean you say that you could take it off, but he still wasn't interested? That's odd.

Thanks!

I actually had a lot more pics but craigslist kept timing out......

I don't HAVE to sell it....I'll wait out...it's fine. I just really don't want to put new tires on my summer rims and I feel like I will have to. If I do, I'm not giving up the Blizzaks.

If this is the case then I wouldn't even bother trying to sell it now. The used car market is terrible. I have not had one person interested in buying my truck even though it is a popular vehicle... however, I have had about 7 trade offers for a variety of different vehicles. Bottom line is that most people are holding onto their money and when they do spend it, they are not buying used cars.

I'd say either go to CarMax or hang onto it until things turn a bit. No point in wasting your time showing the car to people who are going to bitch about stupid shit like window tint. I'm sure you have better things to do with your day anyway then to pacify Craigslist tire kickers...

I know what you mean. I'm going to try CarMax one of these days but they're probably going to offer much less than I want.

I'll keep posting; if I sell, I sell, if not...then not.

GL with the truck!

Yea, I got it last October.

A couple reasons really - mostly trying to get rid of the car payment to save for a house, I don't want to miss out on those great kickbacks :P But the payments are not that big that it's really a problem.

I still have my 1st gen TL so I can drive that - and it's free and clear. Plus I'm just not a big fan of the Mazda.....

Fa sho! Got my crib before i got my porsche. Depending on the amount of your loan and FICO score mortgage rates are pretty good and may drop lower. Plus, you could luck into a great deal on foreclosed property
