I don't recall if it was on here, but I saw a video recently where a guy used audio science to prove that the V10 is the most auditory-pleasing configuration.
I remember going to COTA for the USGP in 2017, F1Experiences was running the 2-seater. A 1998 March IIRC, and they had 2 running. You could hear that V10 banshee from a mile away & had tons of people stopping to look its direction.
Definitely don't get that reaction from a DFV or the hybrids we have now.

Did the V10 rev higher than the old v12?
Back in 2018 wife and I went to Japan for the f1 race and it was some anniversary of the track so they had several sessions on track with older cars. They were mixed groups, but it was great to hear those things rip around the track. I only experienced the v8 engines in person during a race.

IIRC, V10s of the 02-04ish era had the highest RPM, nearing 20k
2017 when we did COTA, they had F1 Masters, all Ford DFVs. Loud but nothing compared to the banshee V10s
