So, does anyone here know why the car rags hate on i-drive so much? Several of you guys have it, is it really that bad? Just wondering because I decided two cars ago that I would never again get one without nav and seeing as how the only way to get nav on the 3-series is with i-drive, I'm kinda stuck. I saw a couple of demonstrations on youtube and it looked pretty cool to me.....

it is not very intuitive. In a Acura you can sit down and figure out all the controls in short period of time. I-drive is frustrating to use. I am sure once you get used to it it is fine. The other reason is because despite supposing to be "hi tech", it's interface is a couple of generations behind what the Japs have to offer.

It isn't i-Drive that is the problem, it's the NAV. I don't like when car mags rag on i-Drive because it isn't hard to use, and it isn't as slow as people make it out to be. The issue for me is that the BMW NAV system is a total piece of shit. Almost any aftermarket NAV will be faster, more reliable, have way, way more options and generally just be more convenient.

Maybe its just me, but when I use my navi i could carless about the closest gas station, dealer or resturant. I only use it for driving directions (if I don't know where i am going). thats it. I can read highway signs for gas, food etc. As long as the BMW navi does that then Iwill have no problems with it.

The Navi in the bmw does what it's suppose to do but as picus said the interface is a couple of years. Personally, I do find the navi in our MDX superior to the one in my 3 series but the difference is not as dramatic as people tend to put it Coming from a 330xi before, I find it really easy to use.Take time to learn it and you'll get the hang of it pretty soon.Other than the navi, the interface(music,on-board computer) is very useful.

cool, glad to hear I didnt waste my money on a worhless navi system. I have worked on a lot of BMWs (paint and body work) so I have messed around with the idrive before. I just havent used it extensivly. But I like to think I'm tech savey, so I shouldn't have a problem fig. it out.. Now if it could teach me how to spell that would be great

All I am saying is compared to a new portable nav system, like almost any garmin or tomtom, you're paying an extra $2000 for a more slow system with less features (bluetooth, ipod interfaces, etc) and a horrible POI setup. IMO of course, and my car has nav.

If it's just nav, I agree but for some of the better integrated audio/nav systems I think it's much more desirable.

You can. They now have a usb and aux in jack in the center console. All you need to buy is the ipod adapter cable and you can control your ipod through the radio. If you have nav you can see all your playlists and everything.

I got few questions for e92 owners....
1. I would like to know OTD price, and options
2. Any heavy mod? I heard that turbo tunner gives you like 40+whp, 35 +tq, any thought?
3. What's the differences between halogen vs. Euro Xenon?

I have been lucking over at the e92 forum alot lately. I have been thinking real hard about trading my tsx for a AW or Black 335i.

picus, how's your xenon match blubs for angel eye holding up? I heard many, many issues about that problem.
thanks,

This seems like such an awesome car I'd like to get a 6MT sedan. While I could afford the car payment insurance is literally 3.5 times more expensive than my '06 TL. The insurance would be almost as much as the car payment if broken down monthly. Those are numbers I can't justify spending.

After getting that quote I didn't even want to shop around. Even if it's cheaper by a few hundred if I go with another carrier, I still wouldn't spend that amount of money to insure a car.

thanks,

1) that varies, but you can get an estimate by looking at the invoice price list at the bimmer forums..

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=78473

2) There are a few out there. Procede, AA, JBH and Helix (coming out). I like to keep it stock for the time being...it still gives me much enjoy...although, it is subject to change.

3) There is NO Halgoen for e92. Only for the e90 328. Halgoen is just regular light bulbs. Euro Xenon is without the orange reflectors on a E90 (sedan). Euro (non-US) spec has the clear lens vs US spec with orange reflectors.

I say test drive one to decide...but that can get you over to the dark side... Calculate everything and if you are comfortable with the payments, I say "HELL YA".

That's weird...it cost me 100 more than the TL I previously insured..now it cost me 1,320 a year w/ 500 dect - full glass prot.

thank you so much for your reply. It still a long shot but I'm gonna try to make it happen by end of the summer.

Are you going to DIY delete sidemarket, or already have? What's your opinion on that?

I don't have a E92 but there are painted reflectors (aftermarket) to cover it b/c its by the fenders. Mine is a E90 so I live with it. It cost a lot to replace it with euro xenons. I don't want to mess around with the DIY on it.

I'll be 25 (cheaper insurance right?) next year might as well wait if I pull the trigger on a new car. New TL, TSX, G35, CTS DI, G8, Camaro, 335i; it's nice to dream.

My TL is also about $100 more than my '04 RSX-S. I thought that was ironic since I was getting an automatic with four doors, more safety features, and a whole different demographic of owners. Cost of repairs that much on TLs? My family has been a member of 21st Century since '95 and I got my own policy in '03 maybe I'm getting reamed and don't even know it.

I use to cross-check esurance before their site got too inquisitive about personal info and their prices were maybe $100 cheaper every six months. It wasn't enough for me to bite. I've always gotten good service with 21st and that could be where the higher price is going to not to mention fattened wallets.

You guys think the quote would be more accurate if I got a specific VIN from a 335i? I still don't think the price would come down that much.

Geico quoted me $210/month for insurance on an 08 335i coupe (with my 97 Expedition) and that was $40/month more than my 06 Civic Si and Expedition......

my insurance on my 328xi only went up $6 a month with state farm from what it was with my 07 tsx. im sure the 335 would make it go up a little more though...

if i coulda afforded the 335xi I would have gotten it, its worth a few extra bucks in insurance to me but not worth the extra $120 a month in payments at my age/earnings.

Looks like he fared much better in a 328 than Will Smith did with his GT500.

My insurance dropped by about $20 a month when I went from my CL to my 335, although I also switched companies when I switched cars.

Okay what gives? I have a clean driving record with 0 points, I'm 24 which may be part of the reason. I live in Santa Clara a safe city, and my credit is far above average. It's in someone's plan for me to not get a 335i lol.

With that said an IS350 was about 2.5 times that of my TL. The G35S and TL-S were marginally higher than my '06 TL.

Back on topic: I still like the 335i and I envy you guys.

I think Im gong to pull the trigger on the new TiTech BOV kit. The kit uses the HKS SSBOV, and cost about $500. Also, I may get the Dinan ecu reflash or a set of 19's. It really depends on how much that reflash is going to cost with the oil cooler that is needed for the 08. hmm

I think the age factor is the reason. I paid alot of insurance when I first got a car. So as time flies, and safely driving (yeah.. with the 335 ), insurance premiums have decrease yearly.

MMM....335 with 19" HRE's FTW! Honestly, i'd enjoy the car for about a year before I start doing any performance stuff to it. I don't care what anyone says, once you start modding anything, things start going wrong

The 335 I test drove had that red interior. At first I really didn't like it. But after about 5 min into the drive it changed my mind. I just loved the color contrast between the seats and the trim/dash. If I didn't live in FL i would have considered getting them. But, it gets way to hot here to have dark leather seats. Even with tinted windows.
