White powahhh! I'd get this thing in white, throw some 19" 3piece DPE's on it (gold w/ chrome lip), drop it and tints

The dash design detracts from this stunning coupe. Audi interiors used to be years ahead of others, now just the exterior is.

Eh, still would rather have a used Z06 for the $$$

You could have two E46 M3's for the price of an S5, and the E46 is just as fast. I dunno, it looks real nice, but low 13's for $50k+ ??

I doubt there's a lot of cross shopping going on there... Not exactly apples vs. apples.

Again, if one were to buy the S5 with speed being their first priority, they are buying the wrong car. This car is about more than just 1/4 mile times.

The interior is at odds with the rest of the car, its a little disappointing. Beauty and elegance on the outside, racy and edgy on the inside.

You could have 11 1983 Corvettes too.

It's a new car. Comparing it to a used one that is that old isn't really apples-to-apples.

I'd rather have one new S5 than two used E46s.

I was at the tracks and saw a Honda CRX from the 80s do 11 second runs... but at the end of the day... when people have all gone home, it's still a POS with ONE seat and some rollbars. BFD.

so what's the point of comparing 1/4 runs?

So you can get respect from involntarily celibate car forum whores when you post your time slips.

In other words, you hit the nail on the head.

Most E46 M3 owners are douche bags, I don't want to be a douche bag.

46 x 2 = 92.... E92 FTW

How is a piece of shit CRX the same as a 1 or 2 year old Corvette?

I guess some people care about door gaps and swiveling headlights more than horsepower & handling?

I wasnt saying it isnt a badass car, obviously it is. I was just saying FOR THE MONEY you could get alot faster, or for the same speed/panache (E46 M3) coul;d spend ALOT less money.

Now if it was a 400++hp V8 then I might reconsider.

I guess I just dont understand the blind love for Audi/BMW. Recently the US has been catching up pretty quickly (CTS, G8,) in the entry luxury/sporty race, and they do it for alot less money. Is there really people here that would pay $55k for a brand new S5 instead of $45k for a brand new C6 Corvette?

BTW I was at the track yesterday. Saw a 335Xi AUTOMATIC run a 12.9 @ 107mph bone stock (driven by a cute girl, btw). She said it should be good for 12.7's if she can launch it harder.

of course, i'd have to have that kind of money, first of all.

but yea. i like the corvette a lot. but i don't think i could see myself driving one. not really my style, i guess.

Dude, THEY'RE NOT ON THE SAME LEVEL!

Like I said earlier, I doubt there is a lot of cross shopping. And yes, I would take an S5 over a brand new C6.

It's not "blind love" as you call it, but I live in the real world, not at the drag strip...I couldn't give a shit about 1/4 mile times because 100% of my driving is in the streets, on the highway, and (unfortunately) in rush hour traffic 10 hours a week. I want something comfortable, aesthetically pleasing and something that I can take for a spirited drive or two...

But what's the point of a guy like me owning a C6 when I see very little open road?

This would be a never-ending debate, S5 vs C6. I'm not even sure which one I'd get, though I haven't even driven either of them. I don't understand the whole obsession over "nice materials" and door gaps, as long as it doesn't look like plywood painted to look like black leather or something along those lines I could care less. If anything, I'd probably like the S5 more for what I'd assume to be a more comfortable ride. The interior is very nice, but not enough to sway me for 10 grand. I've found 4-seater coupes with folding backs to be quite convenient for carrying stuff/people, but so are hatchbacks (a la C6)

I don't know about you guys but I don't rub my door panels and dashboard every time I get in my car or any car for that manner. If you do, all the more power to you, go ahead and spend that extra cash and feel good about it. Mismatching panels do bother me, but only for the 10 seconds or so I spend looking at it right when the light is hitting it at the right angle to show the color difference.

If it weren't for car forums, I probably wouldn't even know what my dash feels like to the bare touch, or what it sounds like when I knock on it. Still, do I care, at all? hell no.

Interior ergonomics > interior *

The C6 has a nicer ass, most people would see it from that view anyway.

Couldnt agree more. While I too value quality, not at the expense of real performance.

People make fun of my Mustang's interior all the time, but when I walk away from most anything on the street (aside from the occasional Z06 or Viper) they cant really say anything about my plasticy interior.

Dont get me wrong, the S5 is a awesome looking car. I'm sure it rides very nice and handles really good. I guarantee it probably wont be as reliable as Vette, get as good gas mileage, and be as fun to drive. Plus, its $10k more. I guess if you REALLY care about how the interior looks, or a stigma involved with a Vette (or any other American V8 car) you would not be doing bad with an S5.

I have a few clients who have ordered, but we don't even know when they will be produced. Our dealership sold the only S5 we've had (in December) and we just have one demo A5.
So, if you want one by next year, get on the list...at least in the Midwest.

Well said

This is like debating why someone would buy a Rolex when a Timex tells time easier and quicker. .

As long as my car is reasonably quick, I don't really worry about performance- so if you are asking if style, fit and finish, and quality of material worth $10 k to me, even though the C6 is faster ?.. absolutely

amateur, batman could step out of this, it's already in his colors too, black AND gold:

For a show car though, i'm very surprised they didn't take the time to paint the inner part of the headlight housings flat black too.
