NYC Red light camera?

So it was about 3am, tired and anxious to go home with about a 30min drive. Keep in mind, this is LATE at night, some ahole decides to tailgate me. After glancing from my rear view to back up front, light turns yellow. I couldnt risk slamming my brakes and having this guy rear end me so i went through the yellow and low and behold, flashes everywhere. Never had a ticket before so any NY heads know whats the deal on this? Do they take off points, will insurance go up, how much is the fine, how soon do they mail the ticket? My plates are from out of state without a front plate (PA), this was at woodhaven blvd right before the belt pkway ramp, so do they have cameras angled at my rear or only front of the car? i dont mind paying the fine, but im just really curious if they will deduct points causing my insurance to go up? any help is appreciated! thanks in advance.

Running a red light in NYC is the worst, worse than speeding. If the camera caught you red handed, then you will get a summon, and points off, and another, I think $300, extra penalty fee in addition to the summon. But granted it is late at night, maybe the camera didn't get a good shot of you, well, probably it wasn't camera at all! Again, they have a PA license plate, so probably the $300 and the points won't apply, not sure, you should go on to NYS DMV to look it up.

All comes worse, get a lawyer... have him explain to the judge that you were being tailgated, and could not stop to avoid an accident.

Actually when a camera catches you run a red light (as opposed to an officer) you do not get a points ticket. Its like a $60 dollar ticket, which is mailed to the owner of the vehicle. My mom ran the same red light not too long ago and we got the ticket in the mail two weeks later. If you were caught by a cop, that would be entirely different. I don't know if you will get the fine at all because of your plates, but if you do, don't worry about it.

^ It depends on your state. He's from PA. My friend from NJ was caught running a red in NYC. $75 fine, and the points carried to NJ since we have a point system, while NY does not.

im just hoping that the camera was only angled at the front of my car and not the rear since i only run one plate in the back. but if it caught me then im down to bite the bullet and pay the fine. im just glad they dont take off points causing my insurance to go up. also if anyone knows for sure how long it takes for them to mail the ticket and how long i have to pay it, it will be greatly appreciated. since the cars registered in PA i needa go down there to pickup the ticket so a 2+hour drive will be no fun if i have to go down more than once to get the ticket.

I know some red light cams only have one camera and it faces the driver... so if you didnt have a front plate your safe... but if they have a cam that faces to the rear of the car, i think your done for.

I don't think they are as steap as some said, and I'm pretty sure it's no points.

Hopefully you are as lucky as I was. I had some asshole on my tail and I went through a light and saw the burst of flash lights. But I never got a ticket in the mail.

All the red light cameras do is give you a ticket of under $100 that is sent to you in the mail a few weeks later. I believe it's $60. There is no addition of points onto your license or anything like that, just the fine. Then again, how could they give you points if no one has proof of who was driving the car? Think about it...

All NYC cameras take picture from the rear only
Fine is $60-70 bucks
NO POINTS

I've gotten one and so has a buddy of mine about a year ago.

The mayor is adding like 100 more cameras all over the city for "Safety" but the real reason is more $$$$$$$$ for the city.

Oh and why do you have PA plates if you live in NY City?

Keep in mind you'll only get a ticket if the light was really red. Questionable yellows they throw out. Has to be a clear infraction.

I will be attending school in PA and NYC insurance prices are outrageous. Also not having a front plate can be quite a perk sometimes.

100 degrees, I'm not sure if they've changed the rules on this in the past few weeks, but I ran a red in the city back in may...recieved the ticket in the mail for $65, with a letter stating:

Violation number
Date:

This is a notice for your violation blah blah....
important part...NO POINTS WILL BE ISSUED in this violation....

it was around 2am and it was a pic of my back license plate..pretty clear picture too (jersey plates)

i think they cannot issue points because how do they know you're driving the car...
ie: car is driven by john registered to his father...john runs the red, so what now john's dad gets the points and what not?? i dont think they can do that
