Is the NSX Still "Relevant?"
Is the NSX Still "Relevant?"
Exact question as in the title. Do you guys feel the NSX is still relevant in the exotics/sportscar scene? In other words, do you feel as if its "out" now that its design is more than 20 years old? I am just looking for your opinions on this.
As for me, I still admire it and am looking to get one at the end of this year after graduation

It will always be a classic as the first Japanese "Exotic", but as far as today's performance standards it's "out". A NSX is 2,950 lbs and with it's 294 hp, 225 lb-ft torque V-6, it still has an excellent power-to-weight ration, but compared to even a Boxter S, 370Z, Ford Mustang V6, BMW 135, WRX STi... a NSX is underpowered, but slightly better weight and center of gravity. As for the same price class cars, an M3, RS4, CTS-V, Z06, C63 AMG, GT-R... These all have better performance numbers, but do not have the "exotic" look an NSX still does.
I feel it was ahead of it's time in the 90's and definitely still has an ageless look that turns heads to this day, but except for the headlights it hasn't really changed since it's introduction in 1990. It's always been underpowered in the exotic world, but has found a way to keep up with the higher hp cars. It's a good "exotic" daily driver and holds it's value well, but it's aged in performance and technology compared to the new line of cars that have came out with big performance numbers.

I think it still is great. Everytime I see one, I put the bib on to capture all the drool. LOL. I think that when it was out, it was ahead for it's time, and just now, it is with it. Acura did a great job of designing it.

Looks wise, it still quite a sight for the eyes.
Are mods significantly expensive? Or are they on par with other Honda aftermarket mod prices?
I had a 91 NSX for 3 years and I had other performance cars throughout the years - nothing was more satisfying to drive like the NSX - currently a I have an 02 911 which I had for just over a month and this is the closest to the NSX but still not the same
The view from the driver's seat, honda reliability, how easy it is to drive, the sound behind you, its exotic looks, how the car rotates, etc....
one day I will have another one - I just hope that by that time they will not be triple the price they are at now

Honestly, the only thing I would do to improve upon the C32B is the integration of cam phasing and direct injection. Other than that, the car is timeless. For its time, the NSX's performance was remarkable, putting up track numbers similar to the Mazda FD3S, Nissan Z32TT and Toyota MKIVTT without the benefit of forced induction. (Admittedly, its relatively fleet curb weight and motor placement has a lot to do with it.)
NSX is ageless as others have said, I fell in love with it when it first came out and still am in love with it. Relevant? Maybe in some sense, but as others have stated, it's slower and lacks technology compared to cars nowadays in its class.
too many people care about speed and standards.
i would drive one just because its so beautiful, and you cant beat honda reliability.
exotic car status + honda motor = perfection.. too bad they lost their way after the glory years of the 90s.
soon, they will start dissapearing due to price drops and younger crowds getting their hands on them. i'd like to steal one before they are all over 100k miles.
ps. 1st gen FTW... never did like the facelift.

I love the NSX and I hope someday that I can own one, from time to time I'll visit NSX prime to drool a little. I agree that its technology is a little behind in comparison with todays standards, but who cares? Its 20 year old technology and ITS AN NSX!! Guarantee you it turns more heads than most cars that are out there today.
The NSX may be outgunned now, but it will always be relevant; it forever stands as the mid-engined exotic that gave buyers world beating performance hand in hand with passenger car reliability. It stuck a foot straight up Ferrari's ass making the Italians pull it together with their build quality.
Plus, all you have to do is supercharge a NSX and there ain't much that can beat ya on the road.

I love older Acuras. (2nd gen Legend coupe and Acura NSX)
