Noob Rims question

I am getting a 06 civic si.
I am looking at getting new rims. The stock rims are 17x7 and I am looking at some 17x7.5, does that mean the new rims are half inch wider? would this be noticeable at all? and what is the offset? is that like the clearance for rotors etc?

offset is the distance from the mounting surface to the wheel's true centerline. A positive offset means the wheel is front of the mounting surface, closer to the center of the fender; a negative offset means the wheel is away from the mounting surface and projecting from the fender.

It makes no sense to buy aftermarket wheels that are the same size as the stock wheels. Go with some nice 18'' tuner wheels if you want to make the car look different.

My boy is putting 18's on his Si with 245's in the back and 235's in the front, he says they fit perfectly.
