Not that they'd sell fun cars in California anyway.

There's like 4 million Priuses, 2 million Insights and Awnuld has the five Hummers. That's it.

They didn't sell it there. It's a decadent capitalist's machine.

I haven't run a front plate for 15 years. Got stopped once in the Bay Area.

Still, there's more to it if your friend didn't pass smog if he just has a BOV (unless it has a dump), intake and exhaust, with cats especially. I would think he would know enough at least to get CARB-approved parts.

its the law and you may not like it but you live here and you are required to follow it I owned my Integra and drove it around daily, 15,000 miles a year without a front plate for almost two years all around the Bay Area and never got a ticket for it.... but in ONE day on LA streets and I get popped for it

^ - Was that recently? I used to not have a front plate because it was never enforced. No one I went to high school was ever stopped for it. It was the same way up until about 2007 when I got a ticket (got it thrown out though). Now I hear about more and more front plate tickets being issued.

Its not just the octane. California requires its own special blends of fuel which adds to the cost and leaves you stuck with 10% ethanol in every gallon sold there...
