NJ Driver - Speeding ticket in CT

Hey guys,

I received a speeding ticket on I-95 in CT yesterday for going 80 in a 55. There were three cops waiting and they got three of us in one go. The ticket is about $270 but my concern is more related to insurance. From what I understand, NJ drivers will get 2 points for speeding out of state as these states share information. This is my first ticket ever, and I'm worried how much my insurance rates will go up. Has anyone had experience with having a lawyer fight these tickets for them? I called attack that ticket . com and they said they would call me back tomorrow. I have no problems paying the fine to CT (I deserve it), but want to know if anyone has been able to plea-bargain the speeding ticket down to another minor offense (even while paying the same or even more in fines).

Thanks.

Hire a lawyer, it will be worth the hassle in the long run.

I'm sure there are people that have pled to lower offenses. You've owned up to it, so make sure next time you slow down.

Your insurance company might allow for some points before raising your rates, not sure, call them. Hiring a lawyer is another way to avoid the points, but still pay about the same in law fees, court costs..

With a single moving violation in CA, you can get traffic school if you have had no other violations in the preceding 3 years.
Traffic school will result in dismissal of the ticket once you've attended (whether in person or on-line). The insurance companies then never see that citation, and you can treat the violation as never having existed.

Traffic school is @ $25 on top of the fine, and some counties allow you to choose traffic school on line without having to show up in court.

G/L.

in MOST states if it is your first offence and you have been driving a while, they typically waive the ticket in lieu of a fine and court costs. if you are really lucky, you can get it dropped completely with no fine...

Where on I-95? Milford/New Haven/Fairfield will plea out...fine but no points. However, you will waste a day at the court.

My insurance told me they dont care what the charge is pled down to - they go by the original offense now. the insurance companies are getting hip to the game now..
