New wifemobile....
So we did pick up the Q50 Sport AWD Saturday morning and we immediately went for a nice ride to Vancouver Canada to spend the night with friends...we just came back.
We are very impressed with the car. Tech is fantastic and the car can literally drive by itself...it was uncanny at times.
I love the fact that I can access the basic functions my touch, the big wheel and by voice....kudos to Infiniti for not bowing to the trend of eliminating all buttons in dashboards.
The Infiniti app center can be a touch slow at startup. Nice the shortcut to call Infiniti concierge service from a key on the nav screen.
Fit and finish is top notch, very premium feel.
The car is very quiet at cruise but if you stomp it the Nissan VQ growls beautifully...I do like to hear the sound of that engine.
Engine smoothness and transmission are much improved compared to the G37...you can see where Nissan spent some development money.
Nice ergonomics but I would have preferred a thicker steering rim like my TL.
Even with the 19" rims and low profile tires, the car is very comfortable over bumps and potholes.
The Drive-by-Wire steering wheel can be a bit perplexing initially but after a brief period I actually like it a lot....unmatched capability to filter (better say eliminate) rough roads feedback....turning ratio is amazing.
What I like of the Q50 is that it is a bit bigger than the 3 Series or the A4 but not 5 Series/A6. E Class big (or event my TL)...just right...for example we did find the Lexus IS350 too cramped (but more fun to drive).
I love the design almost "Maseratesque" in style.....particularly sharp it's the curved blade effects of the led lights.
After all my wife decided that the Lexus GS was a bit too conservative in design for her. It was our closest second choice

i don't care about the wood but i am glad they finally got rid of the keyboard design looking buttons that are shared share with every Nissan.
But i like the Q50 dual screen design much much better than TLX's and love the piano black pieces.
I think it would look much better with brushed aluminum with Piano black instead of the fake wood.
got a good deal on it? and how is the sound system compare to the G37's studio on wheel?

I'm just relieved to hear that the electronic-steering is eliminated next year for the Q50S trim. Whew.

The wood is very real...Japanese Maple
The Bose premium sound system is very good, crisp...just a touch inferior to my TL ELS which is absolutely excellent.
Yes I think I did all right on the price.

In theory to filter out what you do nto want to feel (for example reactions from rough surface)
Less mechanical components = better fuel economy
I believe it's the way of the future.
I do nto mind it at all in my wife's new Q50

Currently Post-Acura
Congrats! Never have anyone get that color in sport, it's pretty much Black Obsidian, Graphite Shadow, or more recently Hagane Blue. Venetian Ruby on the Q50S looks great. InTouch apps should be out soon, but I see people downloading the European app.....without full capabilities.
I think it's just that the electric-assisted power steering will be replaced by a hydraulic unit in the future. Currently, the Direct Adaptive Steering (steer-by-wire) is part of the Deluxe Touring Package. If you don't have that package, then you get a more conventional steering setup. But if you have a hybrid, your only choice at the moment is DAS.

Congrats to your wifey. It's a pretty nice daily driver.
I personally dislike this car very much both the design and the driving feel. Yummy knows how I hate Infiniti cars.

Answers covered above, but it works surprisingly well in the S2000. I thought I'd have no steering feel but it seems to work in that application. Obviously it is not perfect in all applications .

I think he's talking about Infiniti's steer-by-wire system, where the steering wheel isn't mechanically connected to the wheels at all.
