New(used) car list

I have been diving my wifes 07 sentra for about 6mos now and I really need a new DD. The CVT is worse idea ever!!! It robs all the 140hp the car has. My pickup timetable is about 2mos from now and a budget of 20-24k 07-09. I miss my RDX so I'm looking for something turbo/awd. Only other thing is I need an auto because of wife.

My List
09 Lancer Ralliart
08 R32(not turbo but Im a VW fan)
08 Legacy GT

Outside the budget
08 Evo X MR
07-08 335xi

Any suggestions?

Since your wife cant drive a stick I would advise on making up a new list because having any of those cars in an automatic would be a disgrace (except for the Ralliart, I could give two shits about that car). If you want an A/T AWD turbo, may I suggest a Volvo? My parents have owned many of them throughout the years and they are really nice. Anyways, good luck with whatever car you go with.

where did the 335xi come from!? the list seems to have very clashing levels of maturity.

if your lifestyle requires an auto, maybe the boy-racer cars should be forgotten. besides, if she doesnt know how to drive stick, something tells me she may not share an interest in driving a car along the likes of an Evo/R32/Ralliart.

Subaru seems like best bang for the buck. Perhaps a 328xi and S60 could be found within the budget?

turbo, AWD and automatic... looks like you are going to get an RDX.

teach your wife to drive a stick or go with a RWD sedan like a used G

I'm confused with peoples responses. What's wrong with a Legacy GT? I thought 99% of the AcuraZine community goes over the LGT?

Anyway, I personally think either the Legacy or the Ralliart are two great options. I'm suspecting each has padels on the steering wheel?

Good observations but what I want is a DD that I can take down the strip, AutoX and fun on a short commute. We already have a CX-9 which my wife drives but every once and a awhile we switch cars. Yes a manual is better but I can live with an auto.

I love the LGT too, but IIRC even the latest LGT automatic is a "4EAT" or 4-speed electronic AT.... no thanks. Manual only.

I would buy the LGT because it looks the best IMO, has the most space, and is likely to be more reliable than the other 2.

or get a 996 Turbo

You can also live in a hostel, but would you want to?

Look at it this way: Autos cost ~$1000 more than their manual counterparts. Standard driving lessons cost about $50/hr, say $350-$450 worth for your wife to get the hang of it. In the event she doesn't, clutches are about $700-$800.

AutoXing and dragstripping in a manual over auto: Priceless.

But either way, best of luck

What about a CPO RL?

Why do you want a 335xi instead of a 335i? AWD system in the 3 series isn't designed for performance. You can't even get the sport suspension with the 335xi.

Volvo S60R, 300hp turbo 5 with about 296 lbs/ft of torque, AWD, automatic and an in cabin 3 way suspension adjustment so you can keep it soft with the family or firm for a solo trip down the twisties. Very affordable to buy in the used car market.

Being a Volvo it's a sleeper.

I'd say it's more like 10%... with mrmako making up about 9% of that

Don't get me wrong, there are LGT fans on here, but it's certainly not a car that has that large of a following on AZ...

Too bad about the autotragic. An '08 LGT spec B w/ 6MT would be a great car and in your price range. You may as well drive an auto LGT and see what you think. It's a 5EAT.

I would recommend an Infiniti G35x, an Acura RL, or perhaps as someone else has suggested, a Volvo? Maybe an S60 T5 (rare birds) or an S40 T5 AWD. (also a rare bird)

Let me burst this bubble. It is a 5EAT, and Subaru has been putting them in the Legacy since the 2007/8 USDM year. The Imprezza gets the 4 EAT, along with the Forrester.

Oh, and the manual LGT is a 6 speed.......

Give them a drive, and also consider the Mazda Speed 6, if you can find one.

I love you guys......... Really......

All I say is give it a test drive, and you could do wonders if you found a spec B (but those are MT only in the US).

Yeah, sorry about that.... the LGT is a 5EAT I'm out of the loop.

But I thought the previous gen LGT was only 5MT? Apparently the new one is a 6MT, but IIRC only the Spec Bs were 6MTs on the previous gen.

Werd...and the DSG is quite nice on it. And I believe the only option on that generation of r32 anyway.

Dont listen to people such as madcaps who only know what they think they remember from a magazine.

Correct on the spec B for USDM. My 3.0R spec B is a 5EAT for all markets not USA. And the previous GT, I'll defer to MattG for an answer.

The new Legacy is 6MT in the GT, And others are 5EAT. I drove the 3.6, and that is a smooth ride

So i have pretty much changed my mind again. I don't think I really need an Evo so it's between the Ralliart and an 08 R32. Cant really decide which to get. Either one would be used. Ralliart has the tuneablity to be just as fast as a MR plus four doors. The R32 is more refined.
