They'll also pull you over and ticket you for calling it "tints" rather than "tint" like you're supposed to.
...or at least they should.

I have illegal front tint on my Santa Fe (25%) and it's made me a bit nervous with how Nazi-tastic the cops have become.

<---- just got hit a week ago for tint's,like $50 buck's. I get a ticket about once or twice a year here in NJ. I get pulled over constantly though in town's with a low crime rate. That's how they get alot of arrest's,start's out as a simple tint ticket. Also down the shore in summer they get tint ticket happy. I love tint's so I deal.........

BTW: ANY tint on front window's is ILLEGAL in NJ....

Same here. I got pulled over just for my 35% tint a couple years ago. Got a verbal warning to take them off ASAP. I did because there's constantly cops where I work, and that's where I got pulled over. Tint looks so nice when it's on every window, but I just didn't want to deal with getting pulled over again and again.

Ive been pulled over three times in 2 months for tints and license plate cover and various other charges. Ive had 20% on my last two cars (5 years) and never got a ticket until 2 months ago. I havnt heard of any laws changing, but i can def. say it seems like cops are all over me recently

15% is dark, especially at night. I had 35% on my Acura CL for over 6 yrs, even got pulled over a few times for speeding, but not once was my tint mentioned. As long as they can see thru it you should be ok.

You don't need blacked out windows, unless you are one ugly mofo!!!

there no new tint law....they can pull u over for the tints.....they usually pull u over if u draw attention to urself....by playing loud music....having a loud exhaust.....having ur lic plates covered or not in the right place.....i have 20s all around the 35s on the front wind shield......also try telling the cop that u have very sensitive eyes and you need the tint to protect ur eyes from the bright sun....i did and didnt get a ticket.....

Thank you. Somebody needed to say that. Proper grammar, and spelling should be a requirement of some sort. Not to go off topic too much but it's annoying as shit to read through some posts... most times I'll just skip right over a thread and go on because I get so annoyed by the blatant disregard for even a mediocre attempt at spelling and grammar...

Back to the tint discussion:
I'm not sure if it's the bigger city LEO's or if I'm just used to living in a small town... but I've seen the opposite since the rescission started... Local LEO's have become more relaxed... almost too relaxed to the point now where we have OH State Troopers crawling all over the place. Generally nobody will say anything to you around here for having dark tint. Loud exhaust - Yes Stereo - Yes

go Gfaze!

I recently got 30% tint which is still ilegal in MA, but I looked online and found out about a medical waiver you can get at the RMV which allows you to tint as dark as you want without ever getting fined.

Check RMV policies in your area, if you have glasses you may be in luck, otherwise. Good luck with that

I'm at 20% (really more like 18 or 19% last time I got pulled over and measured, lol) and have had minimal hassle with it. One stop in Manhattan and two in CT for tint - only one ticket, and that was in CT, a block away from my job. I paid my $160 and moved on. I consider it "sexy car" tax. I'm sure the next time I go to NJ (which happens rarely if ever) will be hilarious, but since my car's registered in CT, they can't ticket me for it...

I think it has always been that way. Just never really enforced. I have been pulled over for tinted windows a couple times in Jersey. Twice by the same cops. I got ticketed once. I never removed it. And it was always just for the tint.

Then maybe you should think like it as well. We really aren't talking about an egregious grammatical error here. Maybe you should just let it go and focus your efforts on things that matter? Life is short, are you really going to make your mark on this world by being the defender of the proper use of the word 'tint'? I mean, you've clearly impressed jnc2000, and I realize the weight of that accomplishment, but just food for thought.

Just because you have police stickers on your windshield, you should be able to break the law without consequences?

My boss just had to get his front tint removed. His car wouldn't pass inspection with it on. I tried to tell him that when he purchased the car (it already had tint on, looked like 20% all around), but he didn't know what I was talking about. I think he thought it came like that stock just because he bought it from a dealer.

I had my front tint removed about 2 years ago because I got pulled over and warned, and just didn't want the hassle of getting pulled over all the time.

I had a routine for getting past inspection. I would drive through first with the windows down to see if they missed it and when they didn't I would just swing around to the parking lot, remove them, and then go have them put back on. In fact with the CL, I just made the appointment ahead of time knowing that the 5% I had wouldn't pass.

Before I left the NY area, they still worked in NYC. I left mine on the dash when I parked. I've seen meter maids go pass my car with an expired meter. But they usually come back when they are done with the street. A cop told me it will usually buy me some time. That's about it though.

My John Jay Faculty ID got me out of a lot of jams for tinted windows and spot checks.
