New S4 vs M3
#6
Audi has long been playing catch-up to the M3. And its latest assault on BMW's greatest sporting saloon is the 344bhp V8-powered quattro S4
Audi S4
Muscular all-round sports-saloon, but with less thrilling responses.
BMW M3
Still the guv'nor: a purer sporting drive but less secure than S4.
The M3 wins. The audi is better in the wet (more stable / more traction). But it's Steering, Audi's usual failing, that lets the car down.

I hate to say this but the new s4 is a dissapointment...it doesn't have the modability aspect the last s4 had and its a heavy ride...also 0-60 in 5.4 is quick, but i'm pretty sure we can get a cls-6speed to do that w/all the bolt ons i.e. headers/intake/exhaust/pullies
I was expecting audi to knock our socks off, but they haven't

From a mag source:
The twin-turbo 4.2-litre V8 engine that powers the RS6 features five valves per cylinder, hydraulic adjustment of intake cam timing, and two-stage intake manifolds. Two pressure-loss-optimised intercoolers also help in the quest for massive power. A headline-grabbing 450PS (444bhp) is developed all the way from 5700-6400rpm and the peak torque output of 413lb ft stretches from 1950rpm to 5600rpm.

Actually, the above comparo will be irrelevant in about a year. As you can see the M3 is a 2door coupe and the A4 a 4 door sedan.
There will be an A4 coupe and in its S4 version it will make 371HP from this same engine. I am sure it wil be enough to beat the M3 in the straight line cos it will probably be lighter than this 4 door S4.

hmm anyone remeber the video of the RS6,m5 and E55 AMG ?
I belive for 1/4 mile it was E55, m5 then RS6.
I'm waiting for the next S4 or RS4. If i DO get the S4 then i'll just get the aftermarket bi-turbo that's avail on the RS6.

By the way, I now hear that the RS4 will possibly get a 3 liter biturbo engine. The 3 liter engine from the A4/A6 only aggressivelly turbocharged to make at least 380HP.

One of the reasons that I prefer the M3:
The S4 will never be able to do this:
