I don't know why that is a surprise. The RL is near $50k, and Acura is not going to offer good lease rates when the car is the newest thing on the market. Wait a year and you will probably be looking at $650.

I look at it this way:

1. Purchase Price = $50,000

2. Value after 42 months = 50 - 55%
>>> my TL is 55% but rationale is that the TL has fewer gadgets that will be completely worthless after 3+ years

3. Finance rate = 4.9%
>>> guessing here

4. So using $50,000, 50%, and 4.9% APR should = about $600+tax/month

If depreciation is higher (ie: for more mileage allowed per year), it could go higher. But I wouldn't go much higher than $600+tax.

How much was the down payment? Seems kind of high to me.

I figured it to be expensive initially, but I think it's just a wee bit ridiculous lately. Honda's lease rates have sucked in the last 2 mos or so.. There was no money down for the lease, only things due at signing would be the 1st payment, bank fee (Now $1,095 in NY!!), Security and plates..
Residuals for 12k are as follows:
24: 60%
27: 59%
30: 58%
33: 58%
36: 58%
39: 55%
42: 53%
45: 50%
48: 49%

Deduct 2% for 15k miles

The money factor (.00245) breaks down to around 5.88% for 33-39 mos, and (.00220) 5.28 for 42-28 mos. For the record, 24-30 mos is 8.28% (.00345)

Those residuals are okay, but not as good as what was (and I assume still is) offered on the TL.

All this talk of expensive leases reminds me I probably have one of the most expensive TL leases in the country.

I pay $570/month for 42 months. Zero Down.

Before anyone says I am getting ripped, consider this is a 20,000 mile/year lease with the mileage pre-paid. That alone adds about $40/month over the life of the lease.

I also got a lot of free extras in the deal as a result of my tranny problem, including an extended warranty, free service for a year, $800 Blizzak LM22 snows instead of the EL42s, and a set of A-Spec 18s for FREE (I only had to pay for the Yokos).

And I got this car, an Anthracite/Ebony 6MT/Navi, last fall when people were waiting months for theirs to be built.

Not to mention I had three of those rims restored to new condition for FREE after some curbs jumped out and bit them.

Did I mention Acura of Brookfield and John Vasos rule?

I am sure I have mentioned it before, but it is worth repeating.

Zimbrick owns (literally, not figuratively) Acura of Brookfield . . .

Don't let one bad salesperson sour you on a great organization.

Hey guys, I'm new to this board and I'm thinking about getting an 05 TL Navi. -Sorry to just chime in on the thread but I had to while I've got the local guys around- I'm in Racine so I'm thinking about going to Brookfield for my purchase. I see that one of you went to Zimbrick (Madison right?) and the other to Brookfield. Could you help me out by pointing me towards any particular good salesmen or away from any bad ones. Also, after researching a bit, the lowest prices I could find that others purchased (with the Navi) for was $32,750 for the 6-speed and $33,100 for the auto. Do you think these are good targets to aim for? FYI, I might be trading in an 02 RSX-S. Thanks in advance.

I really don't know what the 05s are selling for around here. I paid sticker for my 04, but that was November of 03 when most people were waiting for months to get a Navi/6MT.

My salesperson was not exceptional, and no longer works there. He was inconsequential to the transaction. I dealt with others in the organization that the average person off of the street is not going to have that kind of access to, so my experience is somewhat unique.

Go to Acura of Brookfield and see what they can do for you. If you aren't satisfied with that, try Zimbrick or the Chicago dealers. I suspect you may be able to pay a bit less in Chicago if they have a good supply of TLs, but there is some value in buying the car from the place you have it serviced, if that makes a difference to you in regard to any of your dealer choices.

We're talking about the 05 RL and all of a sudden it's about a TL?

brahtw8, not to stray off, but what specifically had happened to you with your tranny incident? I have an '02 on its fourth tranny, and acura gave me an offer to take it off my hands without any out of pocket expense. Is my situation similar to yours?

The short answer is NO.

My car is a manual. The problem was an early build manufacturing issue that impacted only a few cars.

My dealer discovered the problem before I took delivery, and the entire tranny was replaced before I took delivery.

The banks are guessing what the residuals on the RL are going to be. The closest thing they have to go on are the 04 RLs and the resales on those are almost as bad as Chryslers! Therefore, the banks have 2 choices:

Go with low residuals and high monthly payments to make $$ off of people who want the newest style at any cost

or

Gamble by raising the residuals to drop monthly payments but risk losing lots of $$ if the new models don't hold their values well.

Guess which one they'll choose.

Once the 2G RL has been out for a while, the banks will be able to get more accurate residuals and lease prices will fall regardless. If the residuals continue to scape bottom, Acura will subsidize leases like the 1G RL and the monthly payments will drop OR the residuals will go up and the monthly payments will naturally drop without factory subsidies.
