New Porsche Boxster
What does everyone think of the new Boxster? Might be a nice replacement for the TL.

I as thinking that too...but for the power they offered, I got an S2000 instead. I don't think it's an update enough...looks too much like the boxster from 97 when they first came out... kinda like the coupe, but me being me, I wanted a convertible....=)

It's good to know that the TL-S engine has more power and torque than the Boxter S engine and a much flatter torque curve. Both are 3.2 liter 6 cylinder engines.
It just goes to show you that Honda really knows how to make an engine! (tranny...... that's another story)

Porsche has put a lid on it! After much speculation, a picture in the current issue of Auto Express magazine confirms that the German sports car maker is planning an all-new coupé version of the Boxster. It is set to debut in 2005 and the roadster's agile lines have not been ruined by its transition into a hard-top.
Other spy images in the magazine are of the coupé's all-new soft-top sister undergoing brake testing at a secret location in Germany.
The shots clearly show how Porsche has decided not to mess too much with the Boxster's styling, which still looks fresh seven years after the car was launched. When it arrives in the showrooms, the newcomer will have wider, more angular headlamps and sharper rear end styling, but its elegant profile will remain untouched. Other revisions will include deeper front air intakes, plus larger side vents to allow improved engine cooling.
The baby Porsche also appears to have a wider track, while 17-inch wheels will be fitted as standard even on the entry-level car.
Three engines will be offered. The base model will be powered by a 240bhp 2.7-litre unit, while the S version will use a 280bhp derivative of the same engine. Porsche is also developing an all-new 300bhp 3.4-litre powerplant, which will appear in a new flagship variant.
Inside, the next Boxster is set to be more luxurious and better equipped, with a revised dashboard, thicker seats and a more comprehensive instrument cluster. The move is part of the firm's bid to retain its image as well as its more upmarket buyers, many of whom were sceptical about the Boxster and feared it would damage the Porsche name when introduced in 1996.

Hmmm.
240 HP, 2.7 L, 6 cyl, CD .29, 5.9-6.8 0-60, 155 mph for new Boxster
270 HP, 3.2 L, 6 cyl, CD .29, 5.6-6.0 0-60, 152 mph for 2004 TL
Totally different cars in purpose and design. I love Boxsters and almost got one.
Instead, I opted for a 5 seater with four doors, similar or better specs, better features, lower insurance, and $20,000 less cost.
Of course the Boxster is lighter and will corner better. It's a sports car. It's also a Porsche.
It's a matter of priorities.

I love the Boxster S, but your dad can probably buy you a used 2004 TL and a new 2005 TL for the price of a fully loaded Boxster S.
A one or two year old Boxster S may be the best value. BTW, the special edition for 2004 is very nice.

the boxter is a classic
the s2000 requires too much work and too many revs to get anything out of it
plus IMO it's plainly styled
but it's an exciting car...lots of power if you can get to it, and i'm sure it's hella fun to drive...i can see why you'd want one
i'm just more of a classic guy myself - prefer beautiful lines and unflappable moves
that article is right, the boxter is just as fresh today as it was when first introduced....the lines are just classic and will never fade, that is the test of a truly great design, much like the 911 will never fade
as long as they add more power, throw a higher quality interior in it, then i say it's a winner
handling can only be beat by a handful of cars
