Hope this isn't a repost....have you seen the new M5 with the button that ups the overall hp to 500?

It's hardly a secret, it's covered in the manual.

The S2K has a real secret that isn't in the manual. It's the "secret compartment"

the current M5 is stright badass. it's in my top 10 list of favorite sedans. even though everyone says the E55 is faster (which it is) however the M5 handles better plus it revs higher. the E55 has a little more torque. It's just whatever you perfer. kind of like rich peoples Ford vs Chevy.

I think they are equally fast, both are limited to 155 IIRC.

The E55 is quicker in a straight line, the M5 produces lower lap times.

I think that the M5 is much more fun to drive. I believe the E55 is equipped with a slushbox (not a hater, my tsx is an auto) and also has much larger displacement. The M5 is naturally aspirated and is made to rev high.

the E55 has WAY more torque than the M5... 516... and that's underrated... M5 is at 383.

They are both governed @ ~155mph. But I do know that the M5 is capable of 207mph ungoverned and is quicker than the CLS55 (which posts similar acceleration numbers to the E55)

Allied with BMW’s equally new seven-speed sequential manual gearbox (SMG) in max-performance mode and the lowest curb weight (4110 pounds) in this collection, the M5 blasts to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds, a dead heat with the CLS55, and then eases ahead of the Benz in the quarter-mile at 12.5 seconds and 118 mph. Link

That said, '10 mpg when kicked up to 500 hp'. At $3/gallon, I would use that additional 100hp VERY s p a r i n g l y.

Does anyone know exactly what this button does to raise the HP? Does it allow more air flow, change cams, etc.?

this thing is fast and we haven't even hit the button. The one that makes the M5 feel as if it's grown a turbocharger. You see, when the V10 is first fired up, it defaults to its 400-hp mode, a figure not coincidentally identical to the maximum output of the outgoing M5's 5.0-liter V8. And since the two cars weigh virtually the same, it means the new V10 M5 in its economy mode is as quick as the old V8 was at full speed.

The button is located just forward of the gearshift lever, push it and the V10's 10 individual throttle butterflies completely open (the reduced power mode restricts them to about 90 percent) unleashing another 100 hp. Now you've got 500 hp peaking at 7,750 rpm and 383 lb-ft of torque at 6,100 rpm to play with.
