New GTI / New Passat / Used TL-S?

It's personal taste but I like the 5 door GTI more than the 3 door. I'm a coupe guy through and through but the 5 door just looks more proportional

Production at that plant is about 1/2 of what it should be because of all the problems.....

Haven't test driven VW's dual clutch but I've read good things. If its anything like the dual clutch I have in the M3, I should love it.
That's the plan!
I looked, but CPO'ed 335s are surprisingly holding their value. If they are lower in price, they have high miles.

2007 mazdaspeed 6, awd turbo, usually can be had for under 20k lots of mod room.
2011+ mazdaspeed 3, fwd turbo, fully loaded + mods for under your price point and you will leave a gti in the rearview.
you can also get a used STI, C5Z06, Lotus Elise, Lotus Esprit (maybe), Evo...the possibilities are endless in the used car department. You are stuck like me, I just have to get out and start test driving these vehicles before I can make a decision, until then I'm stuck with the tsx.

I'm not sure how much difference it makes (if any except for maybe reliability), but apparently, Direct-Shift is produced by BorgWarner unlike BMW's by Getrag.

you can get a coupe with premium/sport/navi 6mt (sticker $43k) for about $460 a a month + tax 15k miles/year with $0 down and $900 drive-off But it requires negotiation.
Sedan is about $20-30 cheaper/month but i don't know the availability of 6mt tho.
If you want "real fun" you will have to ditch 2 doors and backseat.

GTI for sure. TL-S is nice, but why not get a new car if you can.
And is SO MUCH easier to maintain than real leather. Its way more durable and won't wrinkle , crack, etc. All you have to do is wipe it with a rag once in a while. Leatherette > leather.

Unless you drive butt naked, i seriously doubt your ass can feel the difference between leatherette and leather.

I say GTI. I've got a 2010 that is loaded except Navi and it's been perfect so far. Love the DSG and I've averaged 29mpg through mostly highway commuting. Can't beat that

The sizzle in the Steak
I average 32-34 mpg in 80% highway 20% city.

I understand the reasons for getting rid of the M3, driving a gas-guzzler myself. Of the three you've listed, I would go for the TL-S. It is fun to drive for a FWD car, moddable, and most importantly since you're commuting long distances.....it's RELIABLE.
I have thoughts occasionally of selling the V (it's maintained its value very nicely!) and buying a more gas efficient car myself, but I'm too addicted to the torque. I can't think of another 4-door sedan with excellent torque AND good gas mileage at a reasonable price.

No plans to sell the V yet. There's really nothing else out there that could replace it, new or used, and especially at a reasonable price. But damn does it suck down the dead dinosaur juice! But that is largely a function of my right foot and my ears.
Sorry for the hijack!
Again, I say buy the TL-S and reduce your likelihood of being left stranded!

On my way to work in the morning, the car tells me I do around 35mpg.

I'm not exactly sure how the options and packages work for GTI, but that one has navi, leather seats, keyless, and moonroof. It seems like it's pretty loaded.

The idea of replacement your cars with a GTI is ridiculous. Don't settle for that low.
I like your idea of the TL-S. A Passat 3.6 doesn't sound like a bad idea either although I had no contact with it so far.
I understand the appeal of a used 535i, but I wouldn't touch it with a pole and financially, the gain wouldn't be that great.

Settling would be buying a used car thats 4 years old as opposed to buying a new one thats just as fun, if not more fun than the TL-S, IMO. The GTI's interior is very nice too. It wouldn't be much of a sacrifice.

Drove it today. I think its been hacked up as in previously modded. There were wires hanging from all different places. Software had to be installed because it was pretty damn quick. Totally forgot how good low end torque feels. Great car for the price. Sadly it reminded me why i dont like powerful fwd cars.
Most likely had 18s but was traded in with cheap 17s.
