if it were true, every major car manufacturer would be jumping on it and implementing it ASAP. Unfortunately there is no "golden goose egg" that will solve all our problems. The incentive to invent one could not be higher and yet still, no one has come forward with a truely viable, cost effective, efficient substitute to the internal combustion engine that can offer reliability, efficiency, low cost, longevity, power, and low-or-zero fuel cost. Whoever can come up with such a thing will single handedly change the world and become the richest MFer ever!! that should be incentive enough but clearly it is not too easy to reinvent the wheel.

Smokey Yunick came up with a "hot air" engine back in the early 80's, with less than spectacular results. Granted we have computer control systems on engines now, but physics is physics. The guy on the second page of the article nailed it, there are so many different parameters an automobile engine must meet to be put into production:

Its a lot easier to put an engine on a bench or in a car and tailor-make your test runs to show benefits to your system. The real trick is to meet all the other requirements for a reliable, cost effective, well performing engine.

Not so easily done. No magic bullets here. Yes, shenadigans.
