New Civic

What's the best forum for the new gen civic?

I test drove a coupe and a sedan this past week. The coupe is much smaller interior wise than the sedan (no back seat space). I got in and set my seat on the drivers side and their was plenty of room behind me still. There are plenty of adjustments to the seat hight and steering wheel tilt to assure the perfect viewing of the double gage cluster. I also had a MAJOR blind spot on the passenger side because the passenger head rest blocked my view out of the rear side window.

The navigation is the SHIT! Functionality the same as all Honda/Acuras. Beats the Mazda hands down (ie Mazda3)! When you turn to the audio portion you can set the background to be a spectrum analyzer (moves with the music!). The SD card slot is a great addition. The end of the disc I think. I was wondering if the DVD unit would be seperate but it is all part of the headunit. This means you will probably have to crack the unit open to mod it to play DVD's.

I don't like the little windows in front of the side view mirror in the sedan.

I hate leather isn't an option. With kids I am sure the cloth seats would get stained very easily. The tan interior is very light, kinda scary.

I'd like to get a sedan next year for sure! Now that I am a parent I really wish the SI was available in a sedan too! O'well....

While I waited in the car, my kids ran into the local Honda dealer to checkout the new Civic. I think they ran out of superlatives to describe the new Civic. And with the RSX-S motor in the Si, the Si looks like it should be a mid-14 sec car.

Looks like Honda is trying to make up for the last generation Civic.

Hows the power? Saw a blue sedan on the road the other day, looked nice. Think I'll wait to see what the new sentra and corolla have to offer first though.

Haven't seen one on the road at all. Very surprising considering the big jump in Civic sales.

Think that jump had more to do with incentives on 05's than 06's.

I didnt try them out myself but 140hp/128lb-ft in the DX/LX/EX coupe is a pretty Big step up from the last generation.

Judging by the brochure, Honda is strongly marketing the coupes towards the sport import crowd. But, it could be too little too late as cars like the WRX, Evo and SRT4 (discontinued) probably grabbed a substantial share of that market already.

It'd be nice if Honda offered a low boost turbo kit as a performance accessory for a few grand more.

The power was decent but of course, DO NOT EXPECT THE 140HP TO PUSH YOU BACK IN YOUR SEAT! I made this mistake myself. I floored it getting onto the highway and my butt dyno read about 5HP. It did pick up nicely and felt nice and agile just not fast...

It'll 'push you back in yor seat' if you've been driving the prev gen 115hp/110lb-ft LX model for the past three years.

While I do think Honda should have given the EX model the K20A3 (160hp) it's better to have the 140hp R18 motor as your base motor rather than a 115hp D17.

Sidenote: If any of you guys have the new Civic coupe brochure, have you noticed that it contains background pics of two film locations for The Fast and The Furious? Mainly, the warehouse location (where 'Brian' offers his pink slip to gain race entry) and the loading dock location (from the opening scene).

The Si is gonna be awesome. Hopefully the ECU isn't a pain in the ass for Hondata. Since it's the RSX motor it should be easy to jump the Si ECU and run it off the '02-'04 RSX ECU. That'd be hot

Saw a sedan on the road. Holy crap it's big. It was stopped at a red light, and next to it was a parked Accord. The cabin size between the two looked as if they were the same size, with the Accord having more hood and trunk lengths.

They did a good job, they are ready to dominate the import scene once again...

The Si will surely have an impact on RSX-S sales just as the '99-'00 Si did to the GS-R.

Think they need more than this SI to dominate, a lot has changed.

Saw a silver sedan today and it reminded me of an Acura more than a Honda, surprised I haven't seen any coupes yet.

R18 (don't know the letter) for all non-Si civics. The Si is the K20Z3.

I drove the LX coupe today. It seemed a bit more plastic than I expected, but at least it wasn't bad quality plastic. It seemed well put together. The R18 motor is VERY eager to rev! I loved it. I drove the 5MT

Anyone else notice any issues with engine knocking with the r18 engine. I first saw it on TOV with their ex dyno article where they had some knock while testing the car and then another member mentioned they upgraded gas to eliminate engine knock they were having under certain conditions. The issue seems to be down played, but I'm not sure if thats due to owning the car/brand loyalty...

Looks like a new achilles heel to add to the great Honda history. :rolleye2:

So now Civics are 1.8 liters. Are the LX and EX the same engine too? No VTEC/non-VTEC difference.

I didn't hear anything strange on my test car. I was particularly listening too, because I also read that on TOV. The engine was INCREDIBLY smooth and balanced.

All Civics except the Si are now the 1.8L engine, the R18. The DX, LX, and EX all have that engine, and they're all the 140hp i-VTEC engine. No powertrain difference at all. The only thing different is features and wheels.

Um yeah so a bone stock Si put down 209whp. Can you say under rated?

That's on a car that's brand new, bone stock, motor not broken in. Another one (don't have the graph) with 3,500 miles on it put down 218whp

Aren't they preproduction though (engines built to lower tolerance)? But still...even for a preproduction car, that's INSANE! I can't wait to drive the Si.

Yes those are pre-production cars so they are hand built. Also that's Shawn Church's dyno which tends to read a little higher than others so figure roughly 195-200whp stock. The motor is still under rated.

Well, when the 1/4 mile time shows up, we will see what is what. I doubt the si is making more power than the tsx.

Is that a TOV dyno? Those to tend to dyno overrated. At least according to the 7th gen Accord auto and 6mt owners.

Today, I've gone to the California Auto Show..... and I saw several different colored Si................... and...... all I can say is...... DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The new Si is a bomb... I bet so many youngsters will buy it..... Both exterior and interior are so neat and racy.. Also, the Si has a NAVIGATION... it was very nice.

I currently own a 05 TL, but the new Si kinda makes me to think about changing my car......

Should I give my car to my mom and buy the new SI guys?

Yeah the 1/4 mile will be much better of an indicator than 0-60. The reason being that unfortunately for their image, Honda has made second gear run out a little before 60, so you have to shift twice to get to 60. This will hurt 0-60 times a lot, and make it look really bad on paper compared to some other cars, but it will be faster than it appears.

The new Si will smoke the TSX in the 1/4 mile. No doubt about it. And since when does the 1/4 mile prove which car is making more power? The two cars don't weigh the same, atmopsheric conditions will affect a 1/4 run more than a dyno, driver error, etc.

The new Si will dyno higher than the TSX and will run faster in the 1/4 mile.

Yeah it's Shawn Church's dyno which does read a little higher but still. They dyno'd at 218 whp. The car has to be making more than 200 at the crank. It's not over rated by THAT much.

I sat in one of the new ones this weekend while I got my brakes done...WOW. I love the steering wheel. Didn't get to drive it, but the dash looked interesting. Overall it seemed very well laid out. I even like the looks.

I also noticed they re-did the Accord sedan rear ends to look more like the coupe. Long time coming, that one.

I just can't believe that the new Hondas rolling off the lines seem nicer than my 2000 Acura.
