I think that is the way it will end up. I actually got another quote for $24k OTD for the limited with nav.

A related question: What are the implications of buying a car under one name and transfering (not selling) to another party? Will taxes need to be paid twice?

Reason for asking is my younger brother has a Sonata, which would qualify him for an additional $1500 cash back. He could buy it and transfer it to our dad, but additional taxes or fees may negate that benefit.

There is a transfer fee due to the DMV.

regarding taxes...you can either "sell" it to your father....or "gift" it to him.

Thanks. I found that there is a $15 fee.

The real problem will be how my brother would get the money to purchase the car in the first place. It may not be worth it.

Go with the Sonata. He won't regret it. It's a fantastic car and ever since the facelift, it's even better.

Better looking than the Accord if you want my

well SONATA IT IS!!

it's a great great car especially with the new interior.

get's better mileage than both camry and accords and you just can't go wrong with 100k warranty with a roomy interior. i would've preferred azera(you can get non navy for 25k), but sonata is still a great car.

The deal isn't done, yet. And we just noticed that the price quote we got had the MSRP listed too low, so we need to verify that we're talking about the right vehicle.

My dad was actually $300 away from making a deal today. He offered a dealer $24700 OTD, but the dealer wanted $25000. I'm glad the dealer didn't take it so we can get a better deal.

As for the Azera, the quotes I got are well over $25k before TTL. But that was the Limited. GLS could probably be done for $25k.

what was the actual MSRP? i know hyundai is giving out $2000 rebates on 09 sonatas. basically i think a good deal is getting $4000 below msrp for any hyundais except just arrived gen coupe. very easy to deal a hyundai compared to other companies.

Was the quote for the Azera Limited with nav or without?

Why is Camry not considered and Accord seriously looked at?

Interior is worse? Lack of steering feel?

Those are my two biggest complaints.

The Azeras were priced about $3k under MSRP, before rebate, TTL, etc.

There were some issues with the Sonata quotes, so we're waiting for clarification tomorrow.

It should be at least $2k below MSRP before rebate, TTL, etc.

If this dealer falls through, I'm sure my dad will go back to the dealer who quoted $25k OTD.

Hey my Father lived into his 70's and refused to ever get a Camry. He preferred the Accord for the exact reasons I listed

I think he has 11 Accords all together and 1 Camry.

Good point but your dad didn't drive big American Sedans. My neighbors on each side, both in their 70's each drove 928's until recently.

One replaced his with a Boxster, the other with a Thunderbird.

It doesn't seem like the dealer I've been in contact with is going to beat the $25k OTD quote. He's about $1k high ATM, and don't think he'll come down that far. I'll give him a few hours to respond. If not, I'm sending dad to his original dealer to sign the papers.

if he considers used....i would get a slightly used M35 or G35. You can get those in around 25's easy. And they are great cars, and have all the toys you listed.

Interesting... the dealer did call me and followed up with an e-mail beating the quote, but he's only found one in khaki/natural on the lot. I told him to keep looking

Another positive is that he thinks we can still get the extra $1500 loyaty rebate.

When I called my father to tell him this, he was on his way to the other dealer. He's not usually this impatient.

Deal is done. They just called on their way home form the dealership he originally contacted. After everything, they got it for $23k, including the 2000 rebate, 1500 loyalty rebate and 300 for their trade (a 1993 Buick something or other with over 120k miles).

I'll have to check it out this weekend and see if any other options were inlcuded. And take it out for a spin, too, of course.

Next up is finally getting my wife the Lexus...

.....300 bucks for the trade...oof! You probably could have gotten a much bigger write-off by donating the car to a charity.

...but hey...that's nit-picky....I'm sure pops is gonna love the new car...and you got a great deal too!

It should have got a couple hundred more, but they really just wanted to get rid of it. Remember it's a 93, a Buick and over 120k miles. Looking at KBB for the heck of it and the LaSabre range is from 350-675. They don't itemize any more, so donation wouldn't have worked. Plus, you need an appraisal/bill of sale for the donation if over $500. That extra $1500 off was icing on the cake.

I'm sure he'll enjoy driving the car and mom will enjoy being a passenger. They'll probably be taking it on a road trip to SF in a week or two once their new grandson (my new nephew) is born and appreciate it.
