new car
I've seen a couple IS-F's as well as a few M3's both in the sedan and coupe flavor, and I prefer the M3 much more, it stands out more and I feel is less gimmicky than the IS-F. Still, I would take one any day of the week, though my number one choice would be an RS4.
And I disagree. Much easier to pick an F out of a crowd than a new M3.
As much I love the new M3 coupes, they are the blandest looking of the 3 German high end sports model. (ISF, M3, RS4)
OK, I see the logic in that, sorry for the confusion...
No, the exhaust isn't the only thing I find gimmicky about the car, the 8-speed auto to me, also seems like a gimmick. Who the hell needs 8-speeds? Hell, I'm surprised Mercedes offers a 7-speed in the C63 rather than a 5-speed, BMW doesn't offer 8, so what makes it necessary? Well, Lexus wanted something about the car to be better than the competition, so I guess the number of gears will suffice. To each his own, I for one wouldn't pick an IS-F over any of its present competition, but that's just me.
I was curious about pricing so I looked it up under edmunds... does the car really look like this? (picture from edmunds) I'm talking about the lowered look... or is it PS? I've seen it in person, and don't remember it being so low... but I like it like that... I'm just curious if it's that low-stock

i've been inside and have driven all 3, and the IS-F has the BEST interior. I believe if you put down overall reliability, performance, and looks, sorry...IS-F holds it's own and each car does well. All the mags are just comparing performance, but what about resell value? look on autotrader.com and see how many thousands of M3s are for sale....
As far as the exhaust....it's just because people don't understand why it's designed that way. Next time you see an M3, E46 or newer, look at how the rear exhaust "bounces" when it's just driving on the road. Lexus made the exhaust that way so that you don't see that happening. If they actually hooked the exhausts up to the tips, it wouldn't achieve what they wanted and it wouldn't work anyways because the exhaust again, bounces and may cause damage to the rear bumper, but on an IS-F, you don't see it bounce because it's not connected. Anyways, i've learned to love the rear exhaust look.
As far as the tranny...why 8 gears? it's not just 8 gears, get your facts straight. The tranny's torque converter locks up from 2-8 when in sport mode giving almost instant manual shifts as quick as 0.1 seconds. The IS-F when in sport mode also rev matches by throttle blipping so that your engine doesn't get shocked when you down shift and you're always in the power band when you drive it hard. Having 8 gears also increases fuel economy. How many RPMs does your car run at when you're going 70mph on the highway? IS-F = 1950 RPMs....that's DAMN good for a V8 AND on top of that, it gets me 28mpg highway...ON A V8! yeah i guess it's a bit biased now that i own one....but i'm DAMN glad that i own an IS-F.... go read about the transmission before you start posting crap like why 8 speeds, i guess it has nothing else on the other cars so it has to have one extra gear...yeah, that's smart............
In conclusion...JDM > DTM....(overall)

it's not that low stock...the rear has like a 1 finger gap and the front has maybe a 2 finger gap...none the less, doesn't sit 4x4 stock like most cars. the stance is perfect
Nice ride. The blue is excellent, very similar to the Nissan Bayside Blue found on the old R34 Skyline.
And ignore anyone who tries to disrespect what Toyota/Lexus is trying to do in the technical areas. Throwing stones without any tech background. Ignore them.

I used to hate the disconnected exhaust tips, until I saw a Bentley Continental Flying Spur, which has the same kind of exhaust tips.... tips tucked behind the bumper cover, with fake tips molded into the bumper cover. I still don't like the way the tips are stacked on each other though, but I do like the IS-F.

The IS-F is just too much "go fast" ... It's a Lexus not a Dodge. There's nothing subtle or (in my opinion) tasteful about the design decisions they chose.
That's the point.
The gimmick, as I see it, comes from the fact that Mercedes/Audi/BMW don't "Tart" up their cars when they have the big engine in them. Unless you get the Black Series but that's a whole other animal.

Lessee...bimmers do hood buldges for size, fender gills, quad exhaust. the new coupe has the option of a CF roof.
An IS-F does a very good blending into a crowd and looking like a normal car. Most people wouldnt even catch that its not a is250/350.
this car is a fad. will be forgotten very quickly.
could envision seeing one ten years from now and thinking: "ohhh yeahh. that lexus. what were they thinking??"
im suprised this thing even got green lighted

That will depend on sales. And right now, it seems to be selling very well. Time will tell.
This is just something i heard from the guy that does my alignment. He told me that German cars are expensive to maintain because the way you have to maintain it. Because it was designed to be driven at fairly high speeds, the brake rotors he says are made of a softer metal and therefore you get increased braking performance, but you also get more wear on them. He says when you have to change the brake pads, a lot of times you have to change the rotors as well....is this true?
When i had my Acura TL 6-Speed, i changed the brake pads 3 times and probably could have turned the rotors to get more life, but i figured i was getting 90k miles out of the first set of rotors so i figured i'd just change them and not have to worry about them for another 90....but i went through factory pads, project mu, and endless cca and never turned the rotors and also never had a problem with vibration while braking or anything like that.
i don't have to justify it beacuse i'm extremely happy with my decision...i'm defending it because a lot of people on this thread probably haven't driven the IS-F, M3, or C63, yet i've driven all 3, and i've driven the IS-F around california speedway during a Lexus Performance driving event, which may not mean much to some, but i got a decent feel for it.
The fun part was when the instructor took us for a "hot lap" around the track
So...yes I do know what I am talking because I was in the DC area over 10 years ago, too. But I wouldnt say Centerville was the best place to live
Whoops, tee hee I was thought you talking to someone when I looked at their location. I was thinking of someplace completely different.

uh...what are you getting? IS-F? C62 (it's a 6.2L not a 6.3 so i refuse to call it a C63), M3?
if you're getting an IS-F...LOWEST price i got was 55.271 with navi/mark levinson package + wheel locks, trunk mat, cargo net. This is the "basic" IS-F package....every dealer has it.

im getting a is-f, i dont give a crap what anyone says about it. I drove it and i fell in love. theres nothing eles that makes me fell this way about a car. i know every is-f that ships come with the navi-levinson package. so unless you order one your getting a navi. And im so serious about teaming up, hit me up. as for the price i can get it for much lower. but the thing is i dont know when im getting one since i have no clue when my car will sell. the dealer i know for a fact will rape me for my trade in so that isnt even a choice. so if your time matches mine, we can get a sick deal and come out with smiles on our faces.
