i'm not totally sold on the "F line" of Lexus. much like AMG and M line of Benz and BMW, the F line builds performance models of Lexus.
in compact, classy, sedans I'd hit up the Benz and test drive a C63. that car is an animal. plus about 35 more hp. which is like good CAI and exhaust.

yea well i can get a ass kicking deal on the f. all the dealers around me have more than enough f in stock roting on thier lot. And with the economy like this, and everyone looking for hybrids not gas eating monster v8's. Also the 2009 comming out soon, all the dealers i called act very desperate. Lets just say i am paying no where near msrp, closer to invoice.
oh yea test drove it and hammered it, whoa! the tl is so slugish. Man that thing just shoots out like a rocket. And dont even get me started on the the beautiful songs it makes when i put my foot down. Its like moving to a totally new country where, you had no idea this kind of acceleration and joy could be experienced.

I would go for an S5 just because I think it looks uber classy and you don't see them very much. Granted, you don't see IS-F's very much (or at least not in my area), but I feel they look ricey. Performance wise though, it's B.A.
If you got teh $$, do it.
FYI, you can get a deal on any of the IS-F's competitors as well except maybe the M3 b/c it just came out. But bottom line is that these cars really aren't moving well b/c of the economy and gas prices... so shop around.
Personally I'd look at the C63 or the S5... but that's just me. The IS-F is nice too. Really can't go wrong either way.

im assuming you want to stay with a 4dr. go with the f, lexus never has any issues with their cars (well not never but you get what i mean) and its a pretty nice car from the pics ive seen(have yet to see one in person)
that being said, never will i ever buy a c63 just because of the resident fire fighter/truck driver ...and i will tell everyone who asks about it to not buy it either

I've seen a couple IS-F's as well as a few M3's both in the sedan and coupe flavor, and I prefer the M3 much more, it stands out more and I feel is less gimmicky than the IS-F. Still, I would take one any day of the week, though my number one choice would be an RS4.
