I know I said this somewhere before...I saw a CTS wagon one night just after they first came out...didn't recognize what it was as I was pulling up to it, but liked what I saw...once I got beside it, I realized what it was...GREAT looking car. A V version of that? Yeah, all day. And I'm sure the sedan version is just as fun as that video makes the wagon look. I could do that...

Just saw the V wagon video
That's goddamn insane.

Bob, keep the good work on this thread. Nice to hear about a car someone is actually enjoying

No. There are no plans for a CTS-V or regular CTS convertible. In fact, the car was not designed with a 'vert in mind, and on purpose. There is a photoshop of such a beast floating around the web, but it is just an artist's rendering and is not, repeat, not going to happen. Maybe next generation.
EDIT: Here is the 'chop:
http://www.roadandtrack.com/future-c...-v-convertible
The Cadillac engineers officially debunked this last year on the Cadillac Owners forum. Unlike here, GM actually has engineers and customer service people openly posting on that forum, and they are actually helpful.

^^^That sucks to hear b/c I have seen too many people write, "Acura, I hope you're reading this", and you know they never are. I guess I was just hoping NO company was listening to their customers.
Is there an official Acura enthusiast resource I can sign up for?

I think a CTS convertible would actually look good (from the back, even) the lifted butt of the CTS coupe would do better if it didn't have a fastback profile, IMO.

Someday, an RS6 Avant+
I think it would be tough to make the frame / body sturdy enough to be a 4 seat vert with all that HP on tap.
Now, dropping the current V motor in the old XLR, that would be sweet.

Well, we have Colin and a few other dealer folken posting here. Colin often provides great information, but it's all on his own personal time. Same with the others. And I certainly appreciate it! I'm sure officials from Acura are monitoring some of our posts.....but they never delurk. It'd be fun if someone did! First question I'd ask....."so who approved the Beak?"
#537

Dealer folken don't sound like the right people to change a marketing stategy. Talking to engineers, or better yet marketing personell, would be ideal. I wonder if Acura gave a survey to every customer, who currently has a warranty, about their future lineup, what approval rating they would get.
But back to the V. Has anyone ever done a comparo with the Panamera? I would like to know if Porsche is justified in charging 2X+ as much.

I would still take the V any day of the week.
I mean, DUH, AWD launch with launch control beats RWD launch without any kind of launch control any day of the week in a dragstrip race. The only launch control on the V is your right foot. Meaning you actually have to know how to drive to launch one.
The comments are hilarious! My favorite one:
....which illustrates the entire point of the V. Luxury bang for the buck. Which, by the way, is what Acura used to be known for before Hyundai came along and ate its (enthusiast) lunch with the Genesis....but that's another thread for another day.
BTW, for $170k in my area you can get a 3 or 4 bedroom house in an average to excellent neighborhood.

What would have been a more relevant test is which is faster around a high speed track (not straight line quarter mile). You know, a cool track like Willow Springs big track, or Laguna Seca. With the CTS-V's superior braking and slalom speed, I think it would be a VERY close race.
BTW, Edmund's acceleration, skidpad, and slalom results are some of the poorest showings I've ever seen for a CTS-V. I think only Consumer Reports got worse numbers. Most tests I've seen show the quarter mile in 12.4@117-118 mph, slalom speeds of 70.5 mph, and skidpad of 0.91-0.95g. Just saying...
And then there's the price... for the $170k price tag of the Panamera, you could buy a CTS-V AND a ZR-1, or a CTS-V and a 911 Turbo, or a CTS-V and the new BMW M5, or a CTS-V and an Aston Martin V-8 Vantage, or a CTS-V and a Maserati Quattroporte or Granturismo, or a CTS-V and a Jaguar XKR, or a CTS-V and a .... you get the idea.

My latest mod, just installed today:
S2T paddles. They make the manual mode on my 6AT CTS-V divine.
BTW, my car was born three years ago tomorrow. 3/13/2009 is its birthday, and it was in my hands one week later, on 3/20/2009. A three-year report is upcoming.

Nope. S2T makes kits mostly for VW and Audi and are well known in that community. They recently branched into the American scene with Camaro and CTS products.

BTW, thanks, guys, for helping to convince me to keep the V.
Car is now well on its way to being paid off this year. I need to budget $2k for an extended warranty, as well.
this car still.

Thanks for the kind comments. I wasn't sure I was going to make it to three years with the car, but in less than a week I'll be there. This will be the longest daily driver ownership for me ever, beating out my 3G TL, which I owned for two years and 51 weeks. I haven't beaten the 3G TL in miles, though....in those 2.99 years I put on 57k miles, while the V hit 35k miles yesterday morning. Finishing up my business taxes this week, and my 3-year V ownership report will come shortly after.
It was 78 degrees today and I still have my winter tires on. DAMN!
I actually had to drive the speed limit on the freeway due to the squishiness of the tires at that temp. I did play with the new paddles a bit. VERY comfortable. I simply don't see why they aren't stock.
Time to bring on the summer wheel/tire set since the weather is going to be nice for at least the next ten days. Firestone, here I come!

Not that this will come as any surprise to you, but the V seems to be a little underrated on paper...

I picked up my car three years ago on 3/20.
In that three years, I have driven a little over 35k miles. I almost didn't make this post because in an attempt to streamline my finances, I actually considered trading it in for a more fuel-efficient and less expensive car. A poor trade-in value ultimately changed my mind. I have not looked back. Honestly, that was the best thing that could have happened because I really like the car, and ANYTHING else less expensive I buy will be a step down.
So on to the review.
As of 3/20/2012, I have 35,177 miles on the car. When I paid for it, it had 8 miles, 4 of those from my test drive.
Major events in 35k miles and three years:
Average mileage over that period is 14 mpg. Over the last six months:
3000 miles--rearended by a moron talking on his cell phone. Fsking dumbass. Led to replacement of cracked rear bumper and left tail light. Cost: $1800. Could have been worse.
8.5k miles--I hit construction road debris, tore driver's front tire (Pirelli SottoZero winter tire) and bent wheel. Car had to be towed in a snowstorm to the dealer. New wheel and tire within 24 hours. My servicing Cadillac dealer earns my respect with super-duper AFTER-HOURS service.
17k miles--Front passenger side door housing replaced under warranty because it failed. This is apparently a regular issue with the CTS.
19k miles--rear diff groaning in low-speed turns. Fluid replaced, sound has never returned.
23k miles--same as at 17k miles, but front driver's side. Driver's seat squeaked so tracks lubed. Problem gone.
34k miles--Front wheel hubs replaced under warranty due to high-pitched sound at most forward speeds. Sound gone.
Five oil changes. I change the oil when the MID gets to 15-20%, I never let it get to 0%. The exception was the first oil change, which was done with less than 5k miles. LS engines are rock solid reliable and I want to improve the chance my engine will live a long time. Average distance between oil changes is 7k miles when I wait for 15-20%.
Four trips to the dealer for warranty issues (well, actually, only one of them was between oil changes) may seem like a lot of issues to some, but I classify them as minor annoyances. I have never been stranded by the car and the drivetrain is SOLID. It helps that my servicing dealer is STELLAR and I would recommend them to anyone for service. They treat me as if they want me to come back for service, so I do.
To compare, I had about six dealer visits for warranty issues with my 2006 Acura RL. I don't recall any visits with my two TLs before that, though. I therefore think the V is reasonably reliable, though my TLs were more reliable.
Interior: The V is still quiet other than a rare driver's side B-pillar rattle from the seat belt adjustment. Too minor to do anything about. The driver's seat is wearing reasonably well. It had developed some creases on the seat bolster next to the door by a few thousand miles, but they have not worsened. The center console creaks when you press on it (e.g. not on a button), but it did that when new. It's not been bothersome as I have no real reason to touch the console.
Exterior: The car has seen a car wash only 3-4 times during my ownership, a couple times when the dealer forgot that I said "DON'T WASH" and once shortly after I purchased the car and was in a hurry. The car has otherwise been hand-washed with Zaino Z7, with multiple layers of Z2 placed twice a year. It's kept the paint beautiful. The stock wheels become badly discolored from brake dust, but I used some Iron-X a few weeks ago to get all that off. They look almost new and sometime in the spring, now that they are off, I'll more thoroughly clean them.
Driving experience: Still fun. A couple of new videos of everyday driving are below. I can't get enough of that low-end torque. This car is so EASY to drive assertively, and yet can be a pussycat like a traditional Cadillac.
What do CTS-V owners do during rush hour?
Startup, some street driving, an onramp freeway blast, then back to the speed limit. Note: worn snow tires were on at the time, so lots of interior noise.
The bottom line: I am lucky to own what will likely be a piece of American automotive history. I am happy it's been so reliable. It's almost paid off and when it is.....gas prices won't matter as without a payment, that's more money for gas (and savings).
Here's how the car sits as of about ten days ago...
