Netflix: Fastest Car

I'm putting this here because of its relevance to the car talk side more than the ramblings.

I just found this today, and its a really solid series. They went around the country and each episode features 4 drivers with cars from ALL walks off life, usually one of them being a supercar. They race and the winner moves to the final.

What makes this series unique is they actually focus on the driver's stories and humanize them and make you root for or hate them.

Highly recommended.

Glad to hear this. I saw it when scrolling through Netflix, but honestly they've been putting out so much programming that it's hard to tell what's good and what's shit. I was up in the air about this one... but I'll have to check it out...

I found this series on Monday and I'm like 5 episodes in already. It's good, some interesting characters. Bisi's van was cool, he came off as pretty full of himself though. Did he really think his FWD van would win? You just can't launch that thing.

I binged the whole series lol...its a good series...you end up kinda liking some people you don't at first...and vice versa. Its funny to see the egos, the excuses, the high opinions. And then, in the end it's all about who crosses that line first...and there is the usual good drama...prepping cars til the last minute. Who ends up not being able to race because of issues, which car will "blow up" mid race, who will get disqualified, who will crash.

Good stuff. Hope there is another season.

Indeed, I started watching is last night and that human element is very compelling...so much so that my wife (who's far from being an auto enthusiast) started watching with me as well.

I second the recommendation.

This show was just what I needed, watched a couple of episodes. Wasn't in the mood to watch comedy or into the Badlands.

I will say I correctly predicted the result of the second episode. The first one was a bit of a surprise until right before the end.

Variety of cars and people are very diverse.

Colin Chapman would have been amused at the comments the RatRod driver/owner paraplegic made about the weight of the various competitors compared to his in the first episode.

Right? On one had I feel bad for the guy but on the other hand you can tell he let what bullying, upbringing he had have a long lasting effect mixed with that good ol' Texas good ol' boy mentality. He was just a big kid who wants to show off to everyone...hence still single, collects all his big toys cars, guns, etc, works out all the time...yet he is still chunky...the thing that put me over was when he brought out his katana...you could tell he had no clue how to fucking use it, or anything about it historically vs what he learned from tv/movies, he was just trying to show off for the camera and looked like a giant man child for it.

I may love Mopar...I was happy as hell he lost.

I liked the
  1. Black T-bird owner (who won) with the motor and trans from his deceased brother-in-law's (killed in a drag racing accident, not his fault) car.
  2. Paraplegic RatRod driver/owner.
  3. Yellow 488 GTB lady, she was fairly down to earth and not pretentious unlike the other exotic car owners.

I like the series so far.

It had it's cheesy moments / lines here and there, but I also liked how it went into each of the projects / driver backgrounds on their roots & upbringings.

Cool stuff, I plan on finishing the series.

for some reason I didn’t love the t-bird guy.

The rat rat rod guy was cool at first but kind of became a compete dick at the end. I think I’ve seen his car at the OC cars and coffee before.

I liked her too. She could have totally been a stuck up snot but was totally nice and generous.

I toally hated the chrome lambo dude. But at the race he was just really excited and nice to everyone.

Can't like everybody ... it hits close to home with local car communities here

Thanks for posting it up, I have a few episodes left.

On a side note, the dude with the Viper was so cringe worthy ...

"I'M REPRESENTING DETROIT"...wasn't everyone in that episode from the Detroit area?

I saw this a few weeks back and it was entertaining. I still have the finale to watch. I know one of the drivers and was happy to see him on the show. The only thing I didn't like was how they generally depicted the exotic car owner and almost pitted the exotic guy vs the grass roots builder.

I thought that part was great. Except you have it backwards. It was the grassroots drivers pitted against the exotic guys. Usually in their own minds.

Because they showed the real mentality of a lot of sleeper builders. A couple of them could probably afford their own exotics (the stunt car guy and his daughter) but there is this blue collar vs white collar mentality.

Take the T-bird guy for example. He thumbs his nose at exotics strictly because someone buys a car out of the box and didn't wrench it themselves. So, with that line of thinking...only people who can wrench should be allowed to enjoyed cars?

Or you got the loud mouth with the Impala. He fucking prepped his car by ripping out as much of the interior as he could to save weight. And then the day of the race came off sounding like sexist buffoon. And I hope he watched that show and felt embarrassed afterwards that everyone will see him say that on the camera.

Anyway, that was part of the set up I liked. 3 sleepers vs 1 exotic. And then all the excuses that came with the loses.

Spoiler

I've only watched the first 2 episodes of season 1 and ... am already sorta turned off by the whole conceit. Feels a little like cable-TV's "Crossfire" brought to the car world ....

That said, I'll probably continue to watch more episodes, just because the folks seem interesting, even if their "trash-talkiing" can veer into melodramatic hyperbole more often than I actually care for ....

Kristen Lee over at Jalop ....

Jalopnik is such a rag of millennial morons.

Everything the author is bitching about is exactly what the show was depicting and then shattering. Its point was to portray the stereotypes and move beyond them.

They went into that show with a bias and it shows. Because they couldn’t see past their own “car culture superiority”

I can't put my thumb on when it happened exactly, but Jalopnik declined a while back. I think it was when they started putting or linking to political crap on their feed.

Manufactured or not, the drama adds to the show. If it were just a plain race day show with the prep and all of the banter taken out, it would be half an hour and a really dry show.

I finished it, the show was entertaining. You definitely find yourself rooting for certain people to beat others. One thing that bugged me was everyone owned their cars except the Huracan guy. All the people on the show had a lot of passion for their cars and then there's this guy who is like yea this isn't even my car. They couldn't find someone who actually owned a Huracan?

The whole point of finding the guy who didnt even own the car was to show another aspect of drivers, vs owners, vs mentalities. Its not like he was a dick. But most everyone else sure decided to be a dick to him.

Overall I liked the show and what they were going for, and it should be great learning for everyone that just because you have a fast car doesn't mean you can drive it. Disappointed no hellcats showed up. I liked the attitude of the guy who won it all, watch youtube, educate yourself

Very cool show and like someone else said, my wife is semi into it for the stories as well. Team Salmone, seems to be at all the rallies and such, seems douchy most of the time and def in the show.
