Need some insight.....
Well the insurance on her car is still under her Dad anyway, but yea, its her car and i rather just make a decision independantly upon that.
I know there is much more to buying a house than a mortgage and closing cost and taxes, but i don't know everything there is. Again, another reason i was thinking of renting for 6 months anyway.
Honestly, we would probably get engaged in a few months and at the earliest get married in like sept or october, in which case i could probably save $7k but that doesn't include having to buy a truck IF i need one or a ring. Basically, i would end up probably with about $12k at the time of the wedding, which i thought would be suffiecient.

I guess something just doesn't feel right to sell a car in order to buy another car with lower mileage on it.....
However, Saki, you bring up a good point about maybe selling her Tc and letting her use my car for the mean time.....
Girlfriend honestly don't care what i do, i think all she wants to do is get married to she can be with me and everything else will just "work itself out." She thinks getting a beater truck would be an ok idea if the job site is that bad. I am still planning on taking my car up there when i start in about 2 weeks to evaluate it first and go from there. We have actually been disagreeing with a timeline as to when it should all go down. She doesn't understand why i feel the need to wait a little bit to get a little more money saved at all, she just can't see it cause we CAN afford an apartment.
That jetta has like 113k on though....not sure how i feel about that one!

If you can't make simple sacrifices like this, its hard to believe your ready for marriage...You don't need the TSX, especially if your worried about the mileage and wear and tear...Its going to be worth a lot less after all that.
I know exactly what I would do if I were in your shoes...Good luck...

There is also another value of the car that i didn't mention. My uncle gave me an 04 TSX as a graduation gift with 33k miles on it and i threw some money into it and then got hit for $12k worth of damages. The car got fixed but just wasn't fixed properly and i ended up trading it in for the current 06 TSX, which is why i only owe about $3700 left. I only financed $5k and got the TSX for a steal of $24,450 +TTL (leftover 06 bought Feb 1st of 2007). Anyway, its got some sentimental value as well due to it being a gift.
You baby and garage something rare, something of value. Something you cant replace if it gets into a wreck.
Anything else you drive and enjoy. Test the durability of the Acura. You install a clear bra, wax it bi-yearly and drive it on the interstate like the rest of the population. Its a plush ride, gets good mileage, and every friday night you just wash the car and no one will be able to tell youve been driving on dirt the rest of the week.
Your future is uncertain, until it is, I wouldnt change your financial position so drastically.

Its also a reason to wait a little bit with the g/f and maybe get an apartment with her until i know where i'll be. I won't be going ALL over the place but it will be a lot of travel most likely, IF i decide to stay with the construction management. My office is based out Philadelphia, old city area.
I hear you about babying something that is rare, which the TSX is not. My dad has a 1958 completely restored VW Beetle and that is garage kept and babied!!!
Partial Update!
So i found out i am starting at the site as of this coming monday! My new boss informed that the soil type there is red clay and that is hasn't been dry up there for months due to rain and such. He said that is sticks to EVERYTHING and i really don't want to ruin my TSX!! I am taking my TSX up there the first week to see if i can park it somewhere else and walk to the trailer so i don't have to get another car.
I also talked to the g/f and we agreed on setting a rough date of spring of next year, which is great cause i will be able to save more money and we can have a nicer honeymoon and such.
I also looked into how much mileage and the price of gas will affect me GREATLY with the distance i am traveling. I was originally consider a Ranger that was getting like 27 mpg on the highway but i then plugged into my spreadsheet if i got a 98 civic DX MT at around 35 mpg and it ends up saving me like $800 over the year i'll be at this project. So depending on the locations i am really leaning more towards getting the following:
95-99 civic
97-99 mazda protege
96-99 toyota camry
(all are around $4k plus or minus $300 which i think is reasonable)
I have only ever driven a manual transmission a few times but i think i could learn in order to save even more money. Plus, the maintanence of a MT is less than an AT. Again, my commute is 53 miles one way straight up the NJ Turnpike.
Suggestions?!?
ALSO, on a side note. If i were to get this beater, to use and it proves to be a decent investment and i continue in construction, then after my girl and i get married i was considering upgrading to a slightly better commuting car and then trading in the TSX for a used S2k for a fun weekend car we can share. I figured it would be almost an even trade. Again, this all depends on our living situation and how quickly we are looking to getting a house but plan on doing an apartment for about 6 months until i find out where my next job will be.

Congrats on the job, and the engagement.
My guess is that the Civic is the best bet since parts would likely be less expensive than those on the Camry or Protege, if you should need to get any parts.

Keep the TSX......................nuff said. You are doing a good job on your life and expenses. Its an '06 with only 12thou miles on it. You have room to play with. enjoy your car man!!!! its almost paid off!! I wish i'm in the same boat. I have an 07 and I still owe about 10 G's on it plus still have the factory warranty thus the reason could not do any mods on the car. "Live life to the fullest bro!! Life's a journey, enjoy the rest of your ride!!!"
Few things about construction sites, almost all the contractors/managers have trucks and you will get shit for driving a car. Then again, all their wifes drive around in 7 series and Mercedes S-class. You don't need a car though.
While many sites are terrible, you can still get to wherever you have to park in a car. My brother was out in the field doing project management for a construction company and he drove his BMW to constructions sites and parked on site.
You won't be there forever. Projects end. Your position in the company changes, you won't be in one place forever in the construction business.
