need opinions on cars
Looking to get a new car in May/June-top pics are m3, m5, SRT-8 Jeep and Charger, CTS-V and C 55 AMG. I know someone said their dad was picking up the SRT-8 jeep soon, I was wondering if he got it yet and his opinions on it. I couldn't find the thread he posted on. Haven't driven anything but the M3, C 55 and M5. I would prefer a sedan, or SUV but fast. I like the idea of the Jeep, just because it has lots of room. Any comments on cars listed, anybody drive any of them, know any quirks with them, my friend had and hated/loved, etc. Top Gear did a review of the CTS-V and was impressed with it, other than the beeping when the door is open, etc. The C55, charger and jeep are all auto/paddle shifting-i would rather have a true manuel tranny. The 2000-2001 M5 has issues with the fuel lines. I will have an extra truck, so if the weather is crappy, the car doesn't need to move. Thanks!

Its a great car, so much fun to drive, but the CTS-V on specs, is slightly (i mean slightly) better. I loved the M5 but felt it was very heavy (which it is). The CTS-V is lighter. I did like the C55, but felt like it was too much of a "cali" car-it felt like it belonged on the west coast, not the east coast, and certainly not NJ with the horrible roads.

The CTS-v doesn't feel at all like the M5, its like comparing a vette to a ferrari. Sure the Vette may be on par with the ferrari on paper, but there is no soul. The beeping in the CTS-v is ear-bleeding loud/annoying, but it sure is fast, the interior feels a little cramped for the size of the car(up front at least). The C55 is too small as well, its probably smaller then the CTS-v, though I haven't compared the actual numbers - the CTS has a much larger rear seat then the C-class.
Its hard to make a suggestion with the list you gave, from largish SUV to entry level(almost compact) sedans and a coupe. I think you need to rationally look at exactly what you want/need the vehicle for before anyone can make any suggestion that is anything more then their personal choice.

I want a fast sedan. The m3 was only thrown in there just because I love the car, and if the price is right, then thats it. My dad wishes me to get an SUV-the Jeep is the only one that will be considered

rough life, to have to deal with the turmoil in deciding between such cars. i feel very fortunate to have been spoiled with my 1986 Delta 88 at my tender age of 21.

you're going wayy back with the m5 tho....are they gonna give you a shovel to help dig that money pit?? it's a nice car yes we all know that but i just couldn't go that far back for my "new" car
personally i'd take the cts-v...i'm a fan of the cts as it is and the v series just steps that up. your choices are kinda all over the place

I really wasn't impressed with the s4-i know 3 people that have had serious issues with the older models, and im just not impressed with the newer s4. Granted, the one i was in was an auto (BARF) but just didn't appeal

With the GM "Red Tag Sale" you can get a fully loaded one for around $35-36K. Also it's got the same LS2 that's in the Vette, CTS-V, GTO which means they respond very well to mods like heads and cam, headers, intake, exhaust etc.

Just trying to come up with some more possibilities.
And another option would be a V70R, in that it is a quasi-SUV. That way you get your car and your father sees you getting something like an SUV. Good compromise?

I love the X5, but they are literally everywhere around me-every single soccer mom drives that, the cayenne or escalade. His main issue is safety, and i want fast lol. Im willing to compromise slightly and so is he. Volvos are wonderfully safe-my parents were in a severe car accident and wouldnt have lived if they weren't in a volvo wagon. But im 21-should i be rockin the wagon lol? ML is completely out-my mom looked at one, and the demo was broken. My best friends mom had one, and it had HUGE electrical problems. Thanks for the other SUV-im looking it up right now and it seems pretty nice.

I figured since I already mentioned the S4 and Audi (and from the response I received) that I wouldn't bother with any other Audis. Though for the sake of more options, yet again, how about:
CPO S6 (only made it in Avant form)
CPO Allroad (2.7T or 4.2--you can even get the 2.7T in stick)

I have a CTS-V and its fantastic. Someone that works in my building has a C55 and its nice enough, but its not special looking at all. The M5 is a great ride, but I'd fear maintenance/repair costs on it. The S60R is really not in the same class as the above 3 cars. Nice enough, but not that fast. I'd get the V again if I had it to do over again. love this car. Fast, luxurious, great handling...
