Need help deciding on tint
Need help deciding on tint
Went to a dealer, asked them about what options they offer as far as a tinting job goes, and here's all I got:
They offer two different kinds of tint. One that is kind of your normal style of tint. The other, the guy said, doesn't show up as dark, but still blocks out most sunlight, keeps the interior cool, etc. moreso than the first one
He said tint #1 (the "standard" tint, I guess) would be about $400-500 on my CL-S. He said that was a rough estimate, but I'm sure they'll charge me no less than that, they never do..
Tint #2 (the less dark, yet blocks more) tint would be around the $800 range. Again, just an estimate.
both tints I believe are from 3M, the guy they have do all the tint jobs for all the cars they have, seems to do a damn near perfect job, and they all come with a lifetime warranty, etc. however they only had tint #1 on display on the showroom floor.
So just wondering what you guys think. Seems kind of odd that he would say that the less dark tint, blocks out more sun and heat. Makes me wonder why the tint that is darker, doesn't do that job as well as tint #2 I was always under the impression that darker tint = blocks out more heat, light, etc. Any opinions or insight would be very helpful!
by the way, "get the tint done somewhere else" is an option. However I'd definitely pay a couple hundred extra just to know it'll be all set up perfectly.

I had my CL done in VA (50% front, 35% rear) with Formula One for $225, it looked great and really cut the heat down. The Nano Ceramic may work great, but I want as much tint that I can get away with.

Tint should not cost more than $200-$300, I don't care what it's made of..
FWIW, I pay about $150-$175 to tint cars for my customers at a shop I do business with. Regular tint though, nothing special. If I chose the ceramic tint, it's definitely not much more than what I pay for regular tint.

Wow thats WAY too high for tint.
I paid $150 to tint my car with a metallized film and lifetime warranty. If you're paying a dime over 200 you're getting ripped off. Just make sure they don't use a dyed film wherever you decide to get it tinted... It turns purple after 3-5 years.
Also, tint shops are cheaper during the winter. I had my sister's accord coupe tinted last December for $90 with a lifetime warranty

Well damn! Guess I'll have to look around a bit, then. They seemed to drive a "you get what you pay for" kind of idea to me. Kept mentioning how good the guy who does the tints is, at it.
I guess I'm being overly cautious. I've rarely seen a tint job on a car around here that wasn't bubbling or peeling like the tint was made of Saran wrap.

It looks like Tommy's and Elite in Portland are expensive, but every window tint place I've been to has a lifetime warranty and a customer satisfaction guarantee on their job. Just use a quality LLumar or 3M tint and let them know up front that your anal about your tint and will go over their job closely.

Otherwise they would do a crap job?
Kidding. And thanks for the rec for Elite!
