If the Tc is in that price range..then thats a steal. Go with that. The corolla and the civic are both good cars though. I'd rank them 1. tC 2. Civic 3. Corolla
But they're all really good for that price range, can't go wrong.

RSX starts @ $20K, so it's out. Check the Scion TC as has been posted.

I think TC's are in the $16k range and I have a friend who sells them and he says that Scion are with no negotiation. I think the xB and xA are in his range. Was there anything in particular you wanted your DD to be?

I'd spend the xtra grand and get the TC if you only want a new car. It has a great safety rating all round, better than both the corolla and civic and most compacts without side impact air bags. It has more power, standard abs, think its the best value and won't feel like a low end car when driving which means a lot on a daily basis.

I like the corolla over the civic, its more powerful and more comfortable but its hard to find a lower end model with abs, with civic ex or corolla abs you end up spending 16-17k which leads back to the tc.

Used you could pick a camry le with abs or accord for 12k with 25k miles which is still brand new, something to think about considering its more car- more comfortable, quiter, etc.

Reviving this thread - What's an inexpensive ($12k - $15k), reliable, sorta fun DD?

In your opinion, what would make for an inexpensive ($12k - $15k), reliable (reasonable cost to run and maintain), and not too boring (something with a little character) DD?

Feel free to comment and/or throw out ideas.

I'm not actually looking to replace my 3G TL, at least for another 4-5 years, but am always window-shopping.

How 'bout this? Has anyone DD'd a 21st century Nissan???

Always liked how those looked, but was unimpressed with the few G37/Q50 I drove [lower trim models]
My Legacy is nearly 10 years newer & was similarly priced.

Although the color-combo's not so hot, how about staying in the Acura/Honda family?

And ... with the SH-AWD system.

Can one find unmolested examples of those hot hatches or the WRX for $12k-$15k?

The GTI, probably yes. Not sure about the FoST or the WRX. Depends on how old and mileage, ofc.

Always liked those RLs. My grandfather had one, pretty competent car.
GTI Autobahn, but you're looking at something around a 2015-17 probably.
Could go FiST easily in that budget. There were some with Recaros when I was looking for comps for mine, in the 12-16k range with around 60k on the clock.

depends how long you wanna keep it, but you know the guy selling the ST with recaro seats beat the piss out of it.
the RL, you have at-least a chance or can hope it’s ok.

similar to an M37, I think you have some hope it wasn’t trashed, g37 definitely not, unless perhaps if it’s a 1 owner, and he doesn’t have kids

Personally, if you were dead set on a new car, I'd pick that RL over the M45.. I mean it's no RLX with upgraded tyres... but you're used to that platform so maintenance should be similar.

in reality though, drive the 3G TL into the ground and only once it's dead and can't be revived, then look into another car.

Yup, but you do have to hunt for it and be willing to travel to get one.

Here's a good place to look:
https://carsandbids.com/search?q=foc...b-9ed76108a03b
https://carsandbids.com/search?q=vw+...c-b13df528f311
https://carsandbids.com/search/subar...9-1a54085a7dd2

Lots of sold examples in unmodified or mostly unmodified condition that sold in your price range. Keep an eye out for new listings and go bid.

There was one a few hours from me in Louisiana that looked shockingly stock. Was tempted to go that route.
Gray FiST with Recaros, IIRC it had around 60k on it, listed for $12k

Edit: It was $12k with just over 80k on it

Looks like they still have it, too
Missing the 12v cover in the console & the rear cargo cover. Looks really clean.

Hey, guys. Great conversation here.

As noted initially and as @thoiboi recommended, I'm planning on driving my 3G TL until it's not feasible anymore--at least for another 4-5 yrs.

So, I'm not actively in the market for a new DD, but enjoy window shopping and learning from others' experiences, perspectives, ideas, etc. It beats doing "real" work!

I'd putter around in this as a DD, but only if it was going for around $10k.

Sort of trolling, but not really.

This is what I would buy with that budget

Love it, too.

But not as a DD cuz I'm thinking "running costs."

That's a great question.

I'd like to know what others know/think, too.

I know they take their commissions from the sellers, but do they actually vet the vehicles before letting them appear on their platform? And does the cost of that sales commission get (inevitably) passed on to the buyers/bidders?

For a more concrete example, take that low-mileage TSX that's being offered (above). Could it be had via BaT for $10k or less? Obv, the price can't be predetermined and simply depends on any given buyer and how much they're willing to pay. It's currently at US $4k with 5 days left.

MPG? Bad.
Parts cost? Kinda bad.
Effortless burnouts in a very understated looking car? No bad at all.

Just think of it as a classy Hellcat.

I want one.
