Hello Everyone, I’m in a bit of a dilemma. I have a 1998 Integra that I bought brand new and I’ve had it ever since. I am now 40 years old and I decided that it was time to get a newer car.
Because Acura’s are so reliable I decided to get a 08 Acura TL Type-S which I love and I kept my Integra.
I was going to seek but because I’ve had it for so long I decided to keep it.
i barely drive it and I decide to go to the store when all of a sudden I was at a stop and smoke came out from the hood, I pulled over BUT I made the mistake of driving it home and I Blew the head gasket.
My dilema is should I fix it or not? The car has 190,000 miles and I really don’t want put that much money into it.
But I hate to see it go, any advise would be good. Thank you.

Get rid of it. It's lived a good life and has treated you well, but you will gradually feel a bit ridiculous putting that kind of money into something that seems to serve the same purpose as your other car.
Now if you want to take this as a project/learning opportunity, that sounds justifiable. But maybe you'd have done that already if you really wanted to.

Agreed. Unless your going to repair it yourself, it doesn't make economic sense. On the other hand, the Integra is a great, fun car. If the car is well maintained, rust, and damage free, and in excellent overall condition, I would be tempted to fix it. If you have the means, it's always nice to have an extra car available

Only worth keeping if it's a GS-R or Type R

Is a B18 still all that expensive. Swap in a good engine & sell for profit, or keep as a 2nd car/beater.losiglow

Did you overheat it when you drove it home? If not, I'd probably just change the head gasket. But if that's not in your neck of the woods mechanically, then I'd probably get rid of it.
Thank you for the responses, I would like to keep it as a commuter car but at the same time I don’t want to put money into it.
It had not Rust, everything is stock, the body has no issues the car is in great shape for being 20 years old.
I’ll see if I can find someone to fix it for me. Thanks again

You can get another non VTEC b18 engine for like $400
You said it yourself. It's a 20 year old engine. They're a dime a dozen these days. Especially since the b series was discontinued in 2002-2003.
Still the sexiest looking engine Honda has ever made

I'm committed to my 08 acura tl. gonna do the same thing with it that you did with you car. gonna keep fixing it till it doesnt make sense anymore. how quick that time comes is different for everyone.
I ended up fixing my Integra, after all it was the water pump that was damaged so I changed it with the timing belt and all the seals and gaskets. Now it’s my commuter car, still looking good.

Nice job. I did the same thing after my 99TL was in an accident. Still a great commuter car.

Does it have sentimental value to you? If yes, then it is pretty cheap to get it fixed.... at this point, engine swap might be cheaper than fixing it and it will add more life to it.
If you dont care about that car and you dont wanna spend $ on it, then the get rid of it.

either way, good call on keeping it... i would have kept it too, they dont build cars like that anymore.
