Need advice on buying a used car
Hey Bros! I need an advice. I want to buy a cheap used Acura. This is the first car for my wife. I have found some options https://incacar.com/used/cars/acura/...ckage-1434528/ .
Which transaction option is more profitable? Thx

Hi RobertMike, welcome to the forum. Your link takes us to one 2017 MDX for $31,500 which doesn't give more options and I wouldn't exactly call it "cheap" (although that term is relative).
If you're looking for used MDX's, I've owned each of the 3 generations and have a lot of experience with personal / hands-on maintenance. Here's my take...
1st Generation (2001 - 2006)
If you're looking for used MDX's, I've owned each of the 3 generations and have a lot of experience with personal / hands-on maintenance. Here's my take...
1st Generation (2001 - 2006)
- Considering we would probably all consider these in the inexpensive bracket, there's no need to go 2001 - 2003. These vehicles have the famous early 2000s TL transmission problems and have the older grille and taillamps. Obviously there are thousands of happy owners in the 2001-2003 years, but the risk is higher to have problems.
- The 2004 - 2006 are bulletproof (we had a 2006). Get the Touring model...the navigation, while DVD based, allows on-the-fly changes (you don't have to pull over) with a convenient touch-screen. It's still my favorite interface of all the Acura infotainment options over the years.
- Areas to watch: steering pump overflow (left side of engine bay), timing belt replacement at 105K, 205K, etc., and look for smooth shifting from the tranny.
- We had a 2010 ZDX which is an MDX fastback, but is basically mechanically identical. This will probably be your "best value" generation as there is a large variance in used MDX prices in these model years.
- Note that the 2nd generation moved to the 3.7L V6 (1st and 3rd generations are 3.5L V6) to differentiate it from the 3.5L V6 in the Honda Pilot. The 3.7L burned oil...a lot. There was a recall on this engine's oil consumption and Acura extended the 2010-2013 warranties for the 3.7L V6. The fix was not cheap: Acura would replace the pistons, piston pins, and rings. Make sure this fix was done prior to buying this generation. Our ZDX burned about 1 quart of synthetic a month.
- Subjective opinion: of the 3 generations, this is my least favorite. The cars feel heavier and the powertrain is just not as dialed in as the others. And this was the generation where the "dial" navigation was utilized (ugh) and Acura was toying with different"beak" grille designs.
- Areas to watch: aforementioned oil consumption and owners trying to "mask" the beak grille (with solutions from plastidip to dealer paint jobs).
- We had a 2016 and now drive a 2018 MDX. Our best friends have both a 2014 and 2015 (both black Advances, ha). IMO, this generation is where the MDX got its mojo back.
- A lot of transmission variance you need to be aware of...2014-2015 has the smooth 6spd automatic. 2016 has the new 9spd automatic, but the gearing and shift-points were horrible. Setting to Shift mode was even worse as the deceleration was jarring to say the least. Some owners on here say they're happy with their 2016s; many do not. We could not wait to trade in our 2016 (hence why we have a 2018). In 2017, Acura smoothed out the transmission considerably and 2018-2020 are basically dynamically the same as 2017. IMO, the 2017+ MDX is the best of all of the MDXs (until the 2021 comes out).
- Areas to watch: stay away from 2016 models and as with many Hondas, expect fairly weak brakes (I usually go slotted aftermarket rotors with ceramic pads and I'm much happier for it).
If professional criminals do a cut-and-shut, it's conceivable to trick even the specialists without an incredibly exhaustive assessment. Shockingly, anyway great a cut-and-shut vehicle looks, the vehicle's undermined auxiliary unbending nature is probably going to be profoundly perilous in a serious mishap. HPI and comparative vehicle history checks will uncover on the double if a vehicle has been recorded as a discount, and you can make your own visual checks, as well.
