move a car west?

A friend of mine is moving to arizona with his new wife for grad school ASU. They have 2 cars and they need to move stuff as well. What's the cheapest way to get a car from FL to AZ? Cheapest they found is $800. His car is old and would rather not drive it.

It's cheaper and much riskier (nicks and scratches), but I know of people putting the car inside 18wheel moving trucks that aren't full. The moving company would rather have a full load for more money, since they have to run the miles anyway, so they cover the car with moving blankets, and pack some other person's home around the car and drive it out. Call Atlas or any of the big moving companies and they should have info.

$800 seems like a fair price. I think we paid somewhere close to $1200 when having a car shipped from Miami to L.A. (Corona actually, which is outside of L.A. and close to San Diego)

Save the money to move it and just sell it. Buy a replacement beater when he gets to AZ.

(Unless when you say "old" and "would rather not drive it", you mean because it's like a low-milage antique/collectable kind of thing. In which case, you don't go cheap on the transport.)

1998 Mercury Tracer FTL

He is taking this advice, I told him I would make the thread since a lot of people where move around a lot or live in the west but weren't born there.

i would just sell it and look for something down there...

when i moved to TX, it cost about 750 to ship my car there... there are alot of factors that goes into the price... especially gas prices...

First choice is the U-Haul idea cause that saves him time and effort from selling his car. Second would be to sell and re-buy.

Either way, not worth shipping the car.
