Motegi quality

I'm thinking about buying some motegi wheels, but I have no idea on the quality of them. Anyone have any experience with motegi?

They have good quality. My friend has Motegi rims from two year agos and they still look like he just got them.

They are middle of the road at best, they are gravity or low pressure cast(though if I recall they have a "race" type wheel which may be light weight). Finish is only fair, in other words I wouldn't pay too much for them.

I would take RH Evolution any day over Motegi. I've installed/sold roughly 12 sets of Motegi's and they are hit or miss, sometimes the finish is OK some times its really poor.

As where RH are very consistant, not a light weight performance wheel, but all around a well finished cast wheel. It seems that a lot of the RH wheels are more "timeless" as well, they are not quite as trendy, but more of a classic style wheel for the sport compact/import tuner.

I saw these
on a Jetta Vr6 the other day and they looked quite sharp for Motegi, who I have always associated with sub-par quality because they are sold at pep boys. They have some nice models out there now though.

Damn I didn't realize that they sold them at pep boys. I was thinking of getting the FF-7's, which are part of thier new racing series. Black gloss finish w/polished lip.

lol, how it looks tells nothing about the quality of them.
I'm not a fan of Motegi because they're somewhat on the heavy side for what they are.

If I recall corectly, both ASA and RH powder coat there wheels which would be a step above the painted motegi's. Don't go to crazy with spending a lot of money on cast wheels, besides the finish and how "true" they are, there is not much different about them other then the styles of varoius wheels. Its a shame the finish is not better on Konig wheels because they are so damn true when new its amazing! Unfortunately with entry level wheels you don't always get what you pay for, so be cautious.

tireguy, thanks for all the help so far. One more question.

I'm considering getting the ASA's. They are 19*8.5 with a 42 offset. I'm trying to fit them on a 2nd gen tl, and most people would just say hell no absolutly no chance that they would fit. However..... Right now I have RH Evo C2's that are 19*7.5 with a 44 offset, with 225/35 tires. I have the new comptech drop and right now, I ABSOLUTLY never rub (All I did was cut the tabs). So, if I took the same tires and put them on the ASA's, I shouldn't rub because the tire (which is the part that would be rubbing, not the wheel) would still be the same width, and the offsets are basically the same... correct? Note: I would be willing to rent a fender roller and roll my fenders in order to make this setup work.

Tireguy, you really seem to know your stuff, so I would really appreciate any insight you have on whether this would work.

It will probably be VERY close, the only thing you have going for you is that the width is going from 7.5 to 8.5. By doing so the tire will become a touch shorter(overall diameter) from being stretched out on the wider wheel. The offset isn't changing enough to make up for the extra inch of wheel. All I an suggest is to try it and see what happens. I am guessing that you may get a little rubbing when the wheel is turned to extremes, but that's just a guess.

W/ a 225 series tire stretched over an 8.5 inch wide wheel you wont have much rim protection. Youll be asking to damage a rim again.
