Most useless auto gadgets?

For me, I'd say power folding mirrors or rain sensing wipers.

What's your vote for most useless?

V8 engine?

All kidding aside, I'd have to say the rain sensing wipers. Folding mirrors are nice convenience if you live in Asia or Europe where roads can be extremely narrrow and parallel parking almost always means you need to tuck the mirrors in.

rainsensing wipers are awesome, how can you say they are worthless. I would say, hill descent control. Completely useless on every vehicle it is put on.

My sisters benz in Germany has auto wipers, power folding mirrors, and rear seat headrests that drop at the touch of a button. In 2 weeks time we used all of those features several times, well worth it.

neon lights anywhere, led lites that go on the valve caps, stickers, huge wings, wheels bigger than 22", 5 inch exhaust tips, eyebrows, fake xenons, wire mesh if not done right, usless gauges on the A-pillars, huge tachs on the steering column, altezza rear lights, curb feelers, led lights that go on windshield sprayer nozzles

rear folding seats :-)...i guess its pointless cause the TL DOSN'T HAVE EM! JUST A STUPID LITTLE HOLE TO POKE UR SKIES THROUGH OR A BIG 2x4...lol..jk

i dunno, i don't find gadgets pointless, i like them they are fun for the car, i think having 2 sets of FM settings is kinda pointless, along with a tape deck...

I tried really hard, but I can't think of any of the new gadgets I'd consider useless.

Brakes.

After all, who needs 'em?

I always get where I need to go faster when I don't use them.

Most useless gadget that I can think of on a car would be Mercedes' electronic trunk closer, which is a $500 option.

Both useful if they are designed correctly. Power mirror controls are great if you live on a narrow urban street and have to allow some a-hole with an SUV the size of one of the houses clearance to drive....... my last car had rain-sensing wipers, and it was handy, but the design was not very refined in its sensibilities, and the sensor seemed to "forget" from time to time, that it was on, and then burst into a flurry of activity. Since it was an electrical design, and this was a VW Jetta, I instantly understood that it was a VW design problem, not the device itself. That rainsensing wiper is great if you live in places that get intermittant showers that start/stop/start/stop

Or Beacon Hill, Back Bay in Boston, the Art Museum area, Olde City, Queen's Villiage (don't go there, it isn't), Society Hill and South Philly in Philadlephia. You guys who live in the suburbs with driveways the size of small airplane landing strips just don't understand...........

Turn Signals.

No one ever uses them anyway, they should be optional or at least automatic!

I hate it when people don't signal!!!!

Try spending a summer in SoCal or South Florida or Arizona, there the sunshades use will become very apparent!

I agree with Jesal. Cup holders should be illegal. A car ain't no damned restaurant-pay attention to your driving, not your fookin latte. Heated steering wheels have always seemed pretty silly to me also.

I gotta disagree. It's a nice, multipurpose gadget. I usually keep a bottle of water and my phone in my cupholders. No one is allowed to have food or drink anything besides water in my car anyway.
