More prpblems with David McDavid Plano

I had my tranny replaced under warrany back in November of 2008. Quick recap of the overheating problem. Basically the tech forgot to replace the radiator cap (my Mugen cap) and I made it about 4 miles before coolant started spewing all over my engine. I got it cooled down and took it back, and of course they played dumb and even accused me of messing with it. Anyway, they took it back topped off the coolant and put on an OEM cap on. I made it 3 miles and the temp gage spiked, so I took it right back. While I was waiting in the service drive I was checking things out and the director of service happened by. I told him what happened and he got pissed and drove it in himself. He brought it back a bit later and appologized saying that they (tech) should have bled the system. Oh, and he found my Mugen cap sitting near the front motor mount.

About a week later I notice an oil leak, so I took it back in and when I was told it was the rear main, I asked why they don't check that during a tranny replace. He said the tech do and I said so this was the same tech that forgot to replace my radiator cap and then forgot to bleed the system? You can imagine the dumb look I got. Anyway, they pleaded ignorant and refused to work with me on getting it fixed and I wasn't about to pay them for it and just added oil about every other week or so.

About a year later I blow a radiator hose . . I'm pretty sure the overheating problem was a major factor as I don't know too many hoses that blow much anymore. For me it's the first time out of 5 other cars I've owned and drove for more than 8 years.

That brings us to today. I've had a bunch of maintenance planned (struts, ball joints, brakes, timing belt, etc. and decided to replace the rear main while much of what is needed to be removed was already done. Well . . I got the tranny out and found out there was more wrong that just a leaking rear main seal. There's an 'O' ring that goes on the torque converter that needs the be replaced, besides the rear main seal . . . well, there was no 'O' ring! The idiots at David McDavid Plano not only left the radiator cap off when they replaced the tranny under warranty, they forgot to put the 'O' ring on.

Note sure what I'm going to do about that, but a law suit is coming to mind.

Shitty. Just another reason why some dealers maintenance shops are inept when it comes to doing repair and maintenance making me trust them less.

like i said in the OTHER EXACT SAME THREAD you posted in the TL section, you cannot blame them for the hose failure, hoses can and do fail at any time.

Some what true that hoses can fail. But it's not near as prevalent as it used to be. While it could never be proved, there's no question that subjecting the hose to the extreme pressure and heat would have weakend it.

well I hate to say it but right now the dealers are screwing people over because they aren't getting sales so they are screwing the people that are taking their cars in, seen it at other dealerships as well, not just acura, but I think it is certain ones.

That really sucks. This right here is exactly why I try to do almost everything myself. And if I cant, I bring it to Paul.

Good luck with everything though.

Yep. In the past I paid to have things like struts, brakes and timing belts done. Now I do all those things myself and even doing the rear main fix myself. And one of our club guys is a Lexus tech and helps me work through certain problems. Good thing I kept all my tools from the early days . . and I do mean early

Not much you can do. Even a lawsuit will lead no where. Your word against theirs & they have paper work & records. Do you? Can you prove any of what you say they didn't do?
It sucks, make people aware of your experience & guide others away from that dealer.

Can someone put a "Warning: Acura Content Within" header on this thread title?

Sigh, of the issues, only the missing radiator cap, over heating and failure to bleed the system could be proved. All the other work was done by me, so proving those issues would be next to impossible. I've not trusted them to do anything on my car anymore. I'm sure they do good work most of the time . . it's just that when they do screw up the customer ends up paying for the original problem and then the problem they caused.

Seriously. If they can't even think of two names, how will they think to put the radiator cap back on...

Man Mark, that really sucks man. I took my grill to them to paint, and they did a good job...so I can't say so much. I might take it there for an overcharged alignment because despite my car pulling rather strongly to the right, Firestone says it is perfectly aligned. Besides...the service techs will like a modded 3G.

I am pretty sure that you would cook the engine long before the hose......

Which part of the engine are you talking about "cooking" before the hose?

My family has been servicing three Acuras at David McDavid for almost ten years, and has generally been pleased with their service. I'm sorry that you had a bad experience.

Maybe when it's out of warranty. Fuckers have tried twice to put a stock exhaust back on & charge me for it.

^Oh ya, I remember you telling me that. Have you had any problems that they blamed your aftermarket parts causing it? Or was it only the battery?

The exhaust & intake have been flawless. The battery has been running fine since & I believe it needing to be replaced so soon was them putting in a bad one to begin with.

I've been taking my car to Goodson Acura in Irving even though David McDavid is a lot closer to me (by probably 15-20 miles) because one of their salesmen tried to do a bait & switch on me when I was looking for my '04 TL. I just said those clowns wouldn't see a single repair job from me as a result, no matter where I ended up buying the car. I have no idea if their service department is good or bad and don't intend on finding out anytime soon.
