Mom wants to buy me a vette to stear away from a bike!!!

So I have been harpin on my mom to understand that I want a bike. She is totally against it. She works for a police station so she hears about all the bike accidents. She calls them "donorcycles". Anyway, I was talkin to her today and basically said, "If you will be upset that I want a bike, then something else has to be fulfilled for the summer for me. She said, "I will buy anything for you if you dont get a bike". I was like oh really? She then said, "I will buy you a vette". I thought maybe she was kidding around, but she was calling her friends for info on vettes and looking on autotrader for good deals. She then told me to go vette shopping.

Me and a buddy went shoppin around and found one that she is willing to purchase for me. Car is in immaculate condition. 2003 w/ 11k miles. Previous owner traded it in for a MB SL500. Vette is stock except for Borla Exhaust (sounds sweet). I cant believe this is happening. My CL for whenever and the Vette for summer. If all goes well, I will be cruising around in this for the summer. All I have to pay for is gas and insurance.

Keep in mind, this is not a bragging thread. I am just excited and cant believe she is willing to do this.

I guess since it's free, you shouldnt be picky...but what is her limit? There are alot of better cars out there then the previous generation vette imo.

So you have a choice between eventually dying on a new high-end bike or driving a used vette fast.

Wow..you gave your mom an ultimatum about getting a bike. She actually went for it.

If I pulled that spoiled shit I would feel guilty for taking advantage of my parents like that.

That is almost as bad as that ianbiz douche saying he wanted to punch his dad for not getting him an M5.

cept you're 24. You can do what you want including getting a bike. can't afford it right now? touch shit, save your money and buy it yourself.

I'm a few years away from 24 and I'd still feel guilty for takin a buck from my parents, but c'mon man... to each his own.

Pretty good summary. I would take the 30K mom is willing to pay for a vette and use it for a down payment on a house.....

I would advise your mom to keep the money for herself and if it is truly discretionary funds, invest it for her enjoyment and retirement. With a grown son, her emphasis and thoughts should return to herself as being number one.

As for a "summer" fun vehicle, use your own funds and get what you want. Don't burden your mom with your thoughts and decisions on this or anything else. She is now entitled to start enjoying her own life without having to worry about how her grown child (grown children?) are doing.

Let her live a little.

Honestly, you already have a car...and you aren't "desperate" for another right now. Tell your mom "no thanks," and allow her to save some money.

It is my fault for leaving the part out of her wanting it for the both of us. It will not totally be mine. She wants a summer sports vehicle as well. We came to the conclusion that a vette would be a nice choice. So how am I taking advantage of it when she wants it too?

Thanks to the supporters and I'm sorry to the haters. I would never give my mom an ultimatum like that, but I simply wanted to prove I am 24 and not a little fucking kid and can take on the responsibility of owning a bike. If I didnt care about my moms feelings, I would just go ahead and buy the bike. The situation may sound different on a screen, but it honestly isnt a big deal.

I hear ya. I still think you should get something different. but if ya'll both like the C5, then go for it. I just think it looks outdated with the new C6 out there.

If you guys can recommend another sports vehicle for under 40k, then feel free to throw some other cars out there. I would love a new/used C6, but they are all over 40k. Thanks for understanding though.

Just a few off the top of my head...

Used Lotus Elise
Honda S2000
G35/350Z
Used M3
Used 911 Carrera

*If I was getting a C5, I would definitely get a Z06!

-Dont know too much abot Lotus'
-S2000 = too small
-G35/350Z = would rather trade my CL in and buy my own new one
-Used M3 = Fun car, but dont really consider it a "summer sports car"
-911 Carrera = She actually mentioned it, but I'm not a huge Porsche Lover.

Appreciate the help though. The SS/Z28/WS6 thing is out too. I love the WS6, but my mom doesnt. Our compromise left us at a Vette.

A late model Mustang or much better yet, a brand new Mustang GT. This can be had for under $30K so it's well within your range (you'd have over $10K left), you'd get a full factory warranty, you'd have one of the best cars in the world for that kind of money, and the new one is so kickin' good looking to boot.

That would be my choice. Hell, if the new Mustangs were out when I bought my TL, they would have most definitely gotten my consideration. I used to own a 1998 Mustang LX 302CID (5.0 liter for you liter-lovers), and it was one of the finest and most reliable cars I've ever owned.

Did they put the 5.0 in the 98's or did you mean the 88?

I know the 94 and 95 still had the 5.0 but didn't 96 up have the 4.7?

yeah i thought the 5.0 only made it one year in the newer of the body styles. would have been great if they kept them in longer.

Yeah, second the insurance cost thing. I have loved vettes since I was little, my parents, in an effort to discourage me from getting one, talked to my insurance company. There was no way I could afford it.

Fawk if shes getting it and putting it under her name then insurance should be fine.

In that case, get a blue or black Z06.

Yeah... That's EB... Electron Blue Metallic was offered in 2002-2004 IIRC...

There's also a Nassau Blue Metallic and Navy Blue Metallic on the 1997-2001 vettes...

i love how anyone that criticizes people like this get labeled jealous. the guy's poor mom doesn't want him to die on a bike so she's paying him not to get one. seems kinda shitty to me that he doesn't just realize how much his mom doesnt want him to get a bike and just not get one.

before anyone lables me jealous , my dad bought me a 30k dollar car when i was 23 as a gift...i didn't have to blackmail him for it though.
