To mod or not to mod.... that is the question

So I am thinking of doing some minor mods to spice up the DD during the spring/summer. Enkei wheels (17") and some Tanabe springs (1.5" drop). the spring rate is only 5% over stock so ride quality shouldn't be impacted too much. The stock wheels are 15's. The question is, do I really want to mod a DD? Does it look too boy racerish? I don't plan on any other mods and I'm serious about that. I don't want expensive wheels, but enkei's are a good balance between quality and price. After the live discount, these are about $100 per wheel.

Stock:

Wheels and drop (photshop, but these are the enkei's I'm considering):

I was hoping you wouldn't the first to reply. LOL I think wheels and drop are pretty subtle, not too flashy.

lowered stance and lighter wheels = necessary mods on all cars, imho

haha sorry! But really you can mod it and if you feel like a HUGE dork then you can put it back to stock.

Could even use the excuse of getting better gas mileage with lighter wheels.

+1

That's the main thing that I do with my DD's. I don't care to go faster, I just want it to handle a bit better. That's what I did with my xB as well as my GTI..

Not sure how much you drive at night but you can always upgrade the headlights to HID ones from JDM version

Why not? Age and type of car shouldn't be barriers to tastefully modify an automobile. Hell, at eighty-five years of age, Carroll Shelby is still modifying mustangs in Vegas. I think the wheels and stance of the car you posted looks great.

Keep it stock. If you had a BMW or AUDI, then mod it.

I kinda agree with Crazy Acura. Could always mod it to make it more "DD-able".
Bluetooth
Navi
Tint
Tornado Fuel Saver
Those headlights are bad ass too

Other then upgraded headlamps I wouldn't do a thing. Its not like the car is going to go from horrendous to beautiful with these few mods, its going to look like you borrowed your sons car. Modding for the sake of modding is pretty foolish.

i dont think he needs to worry about saving money for the nsx seeing as how he spent like a bazillion dollars on parts before he even got the nsx

there's nothing wrong with modding a DD... In fact... I see these Yaris around (the 2 door ones), lowered with wheels... and they actually look really cool... I always thought if I ever get a DD like that, I'd mod it

Ahaaa funny. I have signatures blocked from view so I didn't even realize mine was displaying.

I actually need to revise it anyway. Most of those mods are either sold or off the car ready for sale.

After some thought, I am leaning towards NOT modding. Money isn't an issue, as all of this will be under a grand.. however... reasons not to mod are:

1. Decreased performance (larger wheels/diameter)
2. Possible clearance issues
3. Possible ride quality degradation

It is a daily driver/commuter car afterall....
