Mechanic troubles. Opinions!?!
Ok, here's the story. Was 60 miles away at g/f's house when car wouldn't start. Her mechanic up the road towed and did diagnostics for free. He said it was the fuel pump. He knows I am a college student strapped for cash, so he went with an aftermarket pump that was cheaper than the stock unit, but he said it was better than stock anyway.
I get the car and the pump is making an annoying pumping sound, so he takes it back and puts in a new one. Same thing only worse, so take it back and puts in a new one, different brand, same thing. He tells me that he has problems with fuel pumps and can't seem to find "good ones" anymore. He then tells me that he went through 4 on another customer's car, so this has me worried that it's going to be ongoing.
However, he says he will go through Acura and get the stock pump so he doesn't have to keep doing this. We're having a conversation and he passingly says something about the pump being more than the one he is replacing, so we'll "work something out." Do you think he is going to charge me the difference for the more expensive part? I'm not sure if I want to pay more considering I have wasted 3 times and 300+ miles to get this car fixed.
What do you think I should do?
