Not nearly as aggressive looking, but I don't think that's what the car is about. The interior looks very luxurious, it's filled with tech goodies, and the hardware (engine, trans, SHAWD) is pretty awesome. It'll be interesting to see how the car performs and how it is received by the public.

Its a 50k+ luxury car. Its not supposed to look aggressive or sporty. I prefer an aggressive and sporty styling over it... and I should, I'm 17. But for what the RL is, a luxury sedan, it is very nice looking.

I don't like it either. I am not saying it is grotesque, but I don't like the lines at all. Perhaps it is one of those designs that look better in person. Then again, I never liked the current RL style-wise either.

It certainly looks better than BMWs new styling though. I think it has the potential of boosting Acura to that higher level that other luxury companies have. I really think, though, that Honda/Acura needs a $65k+ super flagship car to be completely at par with the others.

I think it's more personality-based than age-based. Some people just like very sporty cars. My dad, who's four times your age, is such a person. He drove an SC430 for a year, then ditched it for an SL with red leather interior. His older brother drives a Porsche, and a good friend of theirs drives a convertible Mustang.
On the other hand, I have a good friend who's in his mid 20s who always picks the sedate cars. He's had a Camry, an Accord, and now an ES. That's just his style.
Sure, in general more teenage boys might choose a sports car than 70 year olds. But IMO it's got a lot less to do with age than with a person's particular style. When you say the white TL is an old man's car, I just dunno about that. I have another friend who always picks white cars, and he's in his mid 30s. He's had a Celica, very sporty, but also a Taurus and now an Altima. All of them white. And he's a very hip, cool type of person, for what that's worth.
I agree the '05 RL will look more "sedate" than the TL. But the real reason it will be bought by people in an older age bracket probably has more to do with the fact that most of us can afford more expensive cars as we get older. If you look at the profile of buyers for 5 and 7 series, it is probably a similar age range as the RL, but the Bimmer buyers happen to like sportier cars. Me thinks, anyway.

You're right, your personality is, of course, a huge factory. Case in point, my friend's dad is almost 50, runs his own practice, and owns a Nissan 350z as his primary car. I guess I shouldn't have said it the way I did, but a lot of my friends agree... when we see a car that is much more conservative in apperance (05 RL, Camry, ES330) we usually just laugh and say "Old man car." I probably wouldn't have taken an 05 RL even if I could have it... and if I could, I would buy it, sell it, buy a TL, and then have extra money leftover
As for older people buying the RL I completely agree with you. When me and my father sat down at the dealership we were originally looking at the TSX. He saw the TL in red with parchment and he thought it was a very "old" looking family sedan. Just for kicks, and to rub it in on me, he asked what age most TL owners were and the dealer responded saying something along the lines of in their forties. I sat there for a second and said, "Well, I am guessing not many people my age can afford the TL. Forty year olds buy the car because they can afford it, not because it is styled for them," and needless to say my dad realized what a good point that was.
So, yeah, I agree with you. But while preference in style is of course subjective, I think the age demographics do have a lot of input... most kids in High School would prefer a more aggressive car while most older people would prefer a more sedate one. There are, of course, exceptions to the rule though

I think Honda played it "safe" with the new RL and that's fine by me. Some of the new redesigns these days are more "miss" than "hit".....i.e. BMW 7 series, new Audi's with that big-ass "toilet seat" front grill.

I saw a new A6 yesterday. It looked like a cross between a Mazda Millenium and a recent Mercury Sable to me. Very dull.

I see it this way...how many more people that are 20-30 years old can afford a $50k+ car than people over 30+.....not many.
Of course it is for an older crow because they can afford it, but I understand there are a few rich kids on this forum that could afford it too.

(Odd, the old TL was cheaper, but since I went in to look at the new RSX, it seemed far out of my budget; possibly THAT added to my stuffy impression.)
I'm 26 btw. I like it for its technology more than looks, but I still think it looks hot. Another reason I like it, is because they will sell it here (germany) as the legend in contrast to the TL.
I was not in the service nor did I had a wife or kid when I purcahse my 99 TL.

i didnt even know what the hell a TL was until about 6 months ago.
i knew of the RSX because i liked the styling. then when the TSX came out i thought "great! looks like an RSX but its 4-door and larger. woohoo"
so when i went looking for cars i checked out the TSX on the website and fell onto the TL that way.

it's just you, the RL is SOOOOO hot in person! The TL is a great looking car, but the RL is mouth wateringly good.

The 50k bracket is about elegance, not aggressive styling. I think the RL has elegance in spades. I love my TL (and so does every one else apparently) but the RL is another sharp looking car. The TSX, TL and upcoming RL are by far the best looking lineup Acura has ever had. I think the Acura style department is finally earning its keep, KUDOS!
