Bitter aren't they but the fact is the Maxima will take off on the low end but on the top end the TL takes over.

That is just an old thread that refuses to die. The Mods on the org are not as diligent about mercy killing threads as the mods here. (My 02 Maxima could walk the 3G TL 5AT all day but the TL (2G and 3G) is a MUCH nicer car.)

As far as the original topic, the SRT4 still is likely the quickest stock FWD. The quickest Nissan FWD is probably the Altima SE-R 6MT.

When I think about the Maxima. I think about women in their mid 40s.... least that's what I see around here. I would never get into a Maxima for that reason. it's such a mid-aged ladies car.

Alot of black people drive Maximas. Well, the older models at least.

I saw one the other day around here with the side panels airburshed to say "Maximum Respect".

That is exactly what I think of when I see the 3G TL. (A trip to the NJT's Jersey Avenue train station during the morning/evening rush hour can easily confirm that one. )

Now, the Maxima's 4DSC image is officially dead....if not reincarnated in the 3.5L Altima.

both are great cars and have different attributes that set them apart. My friend has an 03 Max 6MT and that thing is fast, but my 99 TL hangs with him neck and neck EVEN from a DIG. he is stock of course. his car looks very nice and so does mine. I'd take his because he has 60k and I have 132k, but other than that I'd go for the TL because of its elegant, classy and sporty style and the sheet metal is of higher quality(oh yes it is).

Sounds like your friend needs to take some courses at Skip Barber. Even with NA boltons, the 99 TL-P has nothing on a well driven 5.5G 6MT Maxima. (A full bolton TL-S might be a different story.)

Impromptu Nissan "discussion meets" on Azine are a rather common occurence.

Our other car is a 06 Maxima SE loaded. It's nice but the one thing we both hate is the horrible turning radius. It's worse than any car I have ever driven.

By the way, we wern't comparing the Maxima to the TL when we bought it. From what we could get the Maxima for and a TL was about $8K difference. Of course, the Nissan dealership being a lot more flexible for negotiations.

Exactly, that's what stopped me from buying the Maxima was the interior and altezzas. I was gonna get a 6psd with Navi for the same price I got my TL but just couldn't get over that.

'Aint' that the truth. My 5.5G braked and handled better once I upgraded to the 512s. Granted the 5.5G is not a great handler, it was still a night/day difference between the 512s and the OEM RE92s.

Many 5.5G owners have swapped out the Altezzas with 5G SE (black) or GLE/GXE (red) tails because of their dislike of the Altezzas.

I never liked my Maxima's dashboard layout and think that the I35 has a much nicer (if not conservative) layout/appearance. And while it does look cheap (like most Nissan interiors), I have yet to hear a rattle or buzz....and I purchased my Maxima new back in March 2002. (As a matter of fact, I began to hear a rattle or two in my 99 Accord by year 3.)
