2005.5 Audi A4 2.0T Quattro

I am thinking of trading in my 02 Tl-S for a 2005.5 Audi A4 2.0T Quattro (newer body style). Baby blue exterior and black interior. My question is what is your advice on the a4 2.0T . The one i am looking at has 50k and is automatic with tiptronic. I would go to audizine and ask but everybody would say get one since its "audizine".

meh id just keep the TL if thats what you are trading for. A4 will be more of a maintenance nightmare than the TL is.

And it's not that fuel efficient as you think it is.

Just drive slower in your TL.

They are terrible cars. I don't know why the unreliable stigma is wrapped around BMW, when Audi is just as bad but a PITA to work on. Example: you can replace the serpentine belt on your 3.2 in about 20 minutes. It would take all evening on any Audi. That tiptronic is most likely on its way out, too.

They (Audi fans) may tell you, "you gotta pay to play," or that it's more expensive but worth it. While in some cases those statements are true, you will regret getting an Audi on some level. I sometimes wish I had gotten another BMW over the TL, but no chance I'd even remotely consider an Audi, warranty or not.

Wife had one, bought it new... and loved it. Never had any problems with it. In fact, it had less problems then my 02 TL-S. Thing was pretty much bulletproof, and the 2.0T is a fun engine. Also Audi paid for maintenance, so in the end it was cheaper then my Acura. In fact, we loved Audi so much when she hit 75k we traded it in for an A6...

Also, had several friends and family with B7 A4's an none ever had issues. I would stay away from B6 and older though... those are hit or miss...

He gets the maintenance done at the dealer and it cost the same or less than our acuras (mdx, tl awd tech, tsx). I would recommend trying to get a 06 or 07 as 05 was the first year of the b7. Your TL is very nice, I would probably just keep it if I were you. The minimal gain in fuel savings will be more than offset by buying a newer car.

Good point. Once the free mainenance expired (50k) we were responsible, and the maintenances were not that much at all. Very comparable to the Japanese luxury brands...

The one thing I have heard about Audi over the years is that they are the best cars, awesome to own, a real pleasure. Then the warranty expires and you get drained on repair costs. I guess it really depends on how the previous owner treated the car, a bit of a gamble.

Ok if not the audi what car would be a good car. I am looking for a 4 door, around my tl mpg or better, doesnt have to be the quickest car on the market but would like it to have some torque and or speed. I just want something different than the tl.

I'd get the A4. Just verify the service history on it and you'll be fine. Our last 3 cars have been A4 (new), A6 (CPO), E350 (CPO), and all of them have been just as good as the Acura's I have owned. That said, the Mercedes is more expensive to maintain (services can be pricey), but the Audi's were not... especially the A4.

Legacy GT? 2008 or 2009 would be best. 6MT and it is a 4 cylinder. But if you drive it like this then your mileage will suck.

The B7 A4 was a decent car, but it had the FSI engine which was direct-injected and prone to carbon build-up. The later revisions don't seem to suffer from the same problems.

In any case, do a little bit of research before making the jump.

As an Audi guy, I can tell you that your mileage may vary. My B6 has been superb and I have no intentions of getting rid of it. The thought crosses my mind every now and then but it simply does everything and is everything that I could want in a 4-door sedan. That said, as with every vehicle, you do have to stay on top of maintenance, particular preventive maintenance, for it to be healthy. I absolutely love my A4 but I certainly wouldn't recommend it to anybody.

That says a lot. It's the exact way I felt about my Range Rover. I definitely recommend BMW to those that can work on their own cars, but not the average consumer.

Not sure I understand how "tiptronic" is any different from Acura's "Sequential SportShift". Clearly the implementation would be proprietary, but in operation, isn't it really the same thing?

In market for a new car

I have heard of these 07 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT. Any ways I am in the market for a new car. So i will be asking for advice on cars and so on. I have my eye on a 07 Legacy 2.5GT, 65k , automatic. I have to buy automatic since i am not the only driver. My question is , is this car quick with auto? any known issues with these subies? and what is your opinion on buying one of these in automatic? I tried to find reviews on them but most of them are manuals

^ Your other thread had a bunch of advice. Sure it started with the Audi, but I saw mentions of a Subaru as well. Doesn't make sense to have multiple topics about the same thing (or to create a new topic about each car you're thinking about). Better to have all of the info in one place.

Threads merged...

^ Ok sorry about that.

I saw this silver 07 Mazda Speed 6 . I am interested. Black leather interior. Not as good as a 07 tl-s interior but still better than the 02 tl (s) interior. I want something affordable to fix and i defiantly want to give a manual a try . My whole life I've had auto's . Plus its got awd.. opinions?

Wait, you said you had to get an automatic because you wouldn't be the only driver, but now you want a manual?

Here's what I looked at when replacing my 2nd gen TL. I was in pretty much the same boat.

Acura TSX
Acura TL (3rd gen) <--- ended up getting a TL again since it was the best overall value
Honda Accord V6
Subaru Legacy 2.5GT / 3.0R
Infiniti G35

I think anyone of these would be nice, but with gas prices today I'd probably look more at a TSX.

I'm sure there are people more knowledgeable but I've seen a few of Mazda 6's on craigslist with new turbos, maybe a common problem?

I used to work for a European car dealership and after spending 4 years there watching people come in to service I stick with Acura/Lexus. Although I may give Subaru a try one day.

mpg on the TSX isn't that great, I mean with any of those cars, it really depends on how your drive it.
